Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for writer/director Jeff Wadlow's Kick Ass 2, based on the comicbook of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. The sequel stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular hero, Chloë Grace Moretz as Hit Girl, Jim Carrey as newcomer Colonel Stars and Stripes, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as returning villain Red Mist and Donald Faison as superhero Doctor Gravity, and arrives in U.S. theaters on June 28th.
Official Synopsis: When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world's first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she's forced to retire, leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with super team Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes. Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, though, Red Mist -- reborn as The Mother F%&*#r -- assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there's only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with all of them.
Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from the trailer... and Matthew Vaughn wasn't directing so I was double-scared... but knowing Vaughn wrote the screenplay (or parts of it, I don't know exactly), that boosted my confidence. I'm truly looking forward to this one. Jim Carrey: as we've NEVER seen him before! Feels like he's doing a caricature of Alex from Clockwork Orange but that's just me...
I'm hesitant. The first film looked great in the trailers, but this looks a bit off. There seems to be too much quick-cutting, hyperactive editing. Of course, that could just be the trailer, but the director's track record worries me. I hope it'll be good, and I'm definitely looking forward to it, but I'm just going to be a little cautious.
Also, that doesn't seem like Jim Carrey AT ALL. It'll be very interesting to see what he does in the movie.
The first one was OK, worth watching. This trailer isn't very remarkable overall but Jim Carrey is the draw for me here...they have him looking and sounding very different from how he usually is, looks like an interesting part for him.
OH MY GOD. Looks SO good. Is it just me, or did this make practically every other action film coming out this year look ultra-lame by comparison? Fun, brutal and hilarious. Everything a good action film should be.
