DivX has revealed that the upcoming Panasonic DMP-BD30E is expected to be the first DivX certified Blu-ray player released for Europe and Russia. The player, which is expected to be a clone of current Panasonic DMP-BD30 with added DivX functionality, has not been priced, but is expected to be released this month in both Europe and Russia.
Yuki Kusumi, Group Manager of Product Technology, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. commented, "In order to give our users access to the extremely popular, high-quality DivX format, we have introduced the first DivX-Certified Blu-ray Disc Player for Europe and Russia. The timely launch of this strategic product is a direct response to the strong demand for DivX playback among consumers. We are very confident this product will be very popular in the European and Russian markets."

You can keep it...
DivX is a brand name of products created by DivX, Inc. (formerly DivXNetworks, Inc.), including the DivX Codec which has become popular due to its ability to compress lengthy video segments into small sizes while maintaining relatively high visual quality. The DivX codec uses lossy MPEG-4 Part 2 compression, also known as MPEG-4 ASP, where quality is balanced against file size for utility. It is one of several codecs commonly associated with "ripping", whereby audio and video multimedia are transferred to a hard disk and transcoded. Many newer "DivX Certified" DVD players are able to play DivX encoded movies, although the Qpel and global motion compensation features are often omitted to reduce processing requirements. They are also excluded from the base DivX encoding profiles for compatibility reasons.

Why would you want to play low quality DivX movies on a Blu-ray player? I've seen DivX movie copies and they all look horrible. |

The same can be said for MPEG2 but its sometimes used on Blu-ray and looks superb. The answer is - its only a codec, the quality and resolution are determined by the source and encode. |

There are many divx-hd movies on the net ,with a resolution of 720p and a good bitrate of 8-10mbit/sec ..... much better than a standard dvd-video ;unfortunately the European Version of the BD30 can plays up to 720x576 pixels in divx format .
I hope there will be a firmware update very soon . |
