This was just horrible. I am especially irritated by the argument that 'taken as a straight action movie, and not as an entry in the Die Hard franchise, it's acceptable mindless entertainment.' Unfortunately, it is impossible to go into this not thinking it's a Die Hard movie. With the terrible slate of movies we've had so far this year, it's understandable the box office is way down in Q1 2013 compared to Q1 2012.
I don't get the hate for this movie either, It's not anywhere near the greatness of the first or third film, But I enjoyed it more then the fourth film and overall it's not a terrible movie. Willis is amazing as usual and the actor that plays his son is someone i'd like to see return for number 6. The car chase at the beginning of the movie was pretty sweet.
Sure I had complaints (the camera never stopped moving during talking scenes for one) and some of the action was clearly CGI, but this is a common complaint in most action movies today. I'll be picking this up for sure, hope the extended cut adds a fair deal and not just 30 seconds more
I thought the movie was barely passable, unfortunately it did have the Die Hard label to it, the action was good for what it was, it was just the story was really weak. I don't know if it will be worth to me to pick it up..
Bruce Willis has always been and will always be nothing more than a bartender who got a lucky break. He learned acting "on the job" and has never improved all that much. He's certainly nothing compared to the truly great action stars, e.g. Charles Bronson. So fuck him and this stupid franchise. Yippee kai echhh.
Awful entry. Ludicrous script, low-rent action scenes. Final insult? Bruce Willis sleepwalks through the proceedings. All previous films, including fourth, had a coherent internal logic. This one don't even bother. Skip it.
So far one of the WORST films of the year. Might give the "extended" version a look. But unless it adds in at least a half hour of character development at least regarding the villains & improves the film overall, I can write this one off as a bad dream. In the immortal words of Bruce Willis, this film is a big load of "chuffa"
It was fun. I've seen all but the first one at the theaters opening weekend and they've always been a good time. It's weird how many people show up on these boards just to tell us all they don't want to buy something. Some of these posts aren't just snarky (snarky is fine), but just ugly (which is less than fine). I'll stay far away from the Star Wars boards, it must be just an absolute venom pit of hatred. The original Die Hard was a classic that hasn't been met by the following entries in the franchise or it's imitators although they do offer up quite a bit to love. The newest entry has merits of it's own including a car chase that was carnage filled insanity, a couple of decent plot twists, some good bonding moments between father and son and a recurring theme of family throughout the film that humanized things a bit and good finale set in an environment that will be of paticular interest to fans of the game Call Of Duty Modern Warfare. It's got it's flaws too not doubt but watching Willis mow down a bunch of baddies with a belt fed machine gun was pretty cool. I am very interested in the extended cut as the director indicated it wasn't just character stuff added back in, but action as well.
How anyone could have enjoyed this is beyond me. I am the first one to usually say "Hey its cool, this was enjoyable in parts." Can't say that for this film, no plot, characters and actions happening out of random. There was no where at any point that I could say this was a Die Hard film, hell, its hard to even say it was even a movie.
There are many problems with this movie. No memorable villain. Poor storytelling; I am not even sure what this movie was about. Bland performances. Direction is pedestrian at best. Very little action, and when the action scenes arrive they are extremely dull. No witty dialogue. John McClain's signature line is mumbled, and without a hint of emotion. If I had stared at a blank screen for 105 minutes (I will say this movie is mercifully short), I would have received the same entertainment value. I look forward to Die Hard 6: The Apology.
The reason most people dont think of this as a Die Hard movie is because they made John McClane impervious to injury and the villain sucks. John McClane falls down a 20 story building and just gets up without a scrape. Car accidents everywhere and John McClane just gets up and walks out like nothing happened. In the first 3 Die Hard's , McClane got his ass kicked. This latest movie he is a superhero who only had a few scratches on his face.. stupid... the villain sucked too. no story really. At least in the first three movies the villains were good. the last 2 movies just sucked.. they were ok but not like the first three
This is the worst and shortest Die Hard with the most forgetable bad guys EVER!
Die Hard 6 needs to get back to America, make it topycal Al Queda attacking NY, bring back Holy and lose the kids, pointless walking, talking planks of wood and bring back the swearing and blood!.......12A certificate is ruining movies!
I am sorry for the fans who like this film, but out of the whole die hard films this film is by far the worst film i seen in the series.i would not even rent watch on tv nor will i be buying this film.the worst film of the year by far .i dont even want to call this a cash grab because it was not it felt like this film should of never been made period.
The only thing I can think about this movie is how forgettable it was. I saw it, and forgot it even existed until I saw this post. I can't imagine an extended cut will fix the problems in this movie. At least Live Free was somewhat memorable. Ah, well. Maybe they'll fix the problems in Die Hard 6?
Totally unrealistic action, forgettable characters - especially the villains, bad script, etc. Just bad movie.
I hope Die hard 6 gets made to redeem from this movie. Hate to see this great franchise to end with this #@%&*...
I saw this in IMAX and will admit to being disapointed. Sure there was plenty of mindless action and destrction but give me "something" to root for. For all the grief Live Free gets I find it a much better ride than this last one.
I really HATE shaky cam with every fiber of my being and this movie used it when two people are standing perfectly still talking to each other. Really? God I hope this isn't the new thing with directors. I read an article where Bruce said if this one was successful he'd be willing to do one more before retiring McClane.
