Walt Disney Pictures has released a new "Sneak Peek" trailer for Planes, a Cars spin-off from producer John Lasseter, director Klay Hall and DisneyToon Studios. The high-flying adventure features the voice talents of Dane Cook, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and John Cleese, and is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on August 9th.
Synopsis: From above the world of Cars comes Disney's Planes, an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (Cook), a crop duster with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty's not exactly built for racing, and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps him qualify to take the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty's courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
The remaining voice cast includes Louis-Dreyfus, Cleese, Kilmer and Edwards (as fighter jets no less), Teri Hatcher, Cedric the Entertainer, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Sinbad and Gabriel Iglesias, among many others.
I'm actually really looking forward to this. The "Cars" franchise grew on me immensely over the years and I like the idea of expanding it to a new world. I was happy to pick this up when it was announced as a mere DTV title but seeing it making the leap to 3D on the big screen is all the better.
@TheTimeTraveler-808 Actually they're busy making original films. After MU (which is a prequel) the only sequel is Finding Dory while we are getting The Good Dinosaur, The Inside Out and Dia de los Muertos.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Planes begin at Pixar's Vancouver branch in its original "STV spinoff of Cars" concept, before it was placed under the DisneyToon umbrella? Since DisneyToon is just a brand (the Tinker Bell movies were all made in India), which animation studio is REALLY making this movie?
