The Purge

Posted April 3, 2013 06:49 PM by Webmaster

Universal 100thUniversal Studios has released a trailer for director James DeMonaco's latest project The Purge (2013), starring Lena Headey (Dredd), Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset), and Edwin Hodge (TV's Cougar Town). The film is set to open in theaters across the United States on May 31.

The Purge is produced by Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Andrew Form, Bradley Fuller, and Sebastien Lemercier.

Official synopsis: If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? In The Purge, a speculative thriller that follows one family over the course of a single night, four people will be tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home. In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity—including murder—becomes legal. The police can't be called. Hospitals suspend help. It's one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking.

James DeMonaco wrote the scripts for The Negotiator, Assault on Precinct 13, and Skinwalkers.

Very original, but.....

My thoughts exactly. I might give it a look, as long as it's not shot home-video-style. Those were OK for a while, now they're just cheap.

Looks awesome! Kinda wish they would have done something more with such a unique concept other than just the home invasion angle though...but it still looks great!

I like it! Just saw Sinister a few days ago, that was very good. Looks like a a few of the same cast/crew are back for this. Looking forward to it.

Concept seems very out there, different but far from a realistic approach. Might be a worthy thriller though, as long as you can get by the thought of making an annual 12 hour period for criminals to do as they please to lower the crime rate..(not seeing how that works?)

I think it looks great. At least there's a unique twist on things.

i like the looks of it. this kinda reminds me of KB's Strange Days. I think depending on the review, I might go see this in the theater. If not, of course, i'll be getting it on blu!

Looks very much like The Strangers. I might go see it or wait for the Blu-ray.

Stupid and NOT original. It was done to a degree in an original STAR TREK episode where they go to a planet were every goes nuts for a certain amount of time to let out steam - basically the same damn thing. CAN'T ANYONE COME UP WITH AN ORIGINAL IDEA ANYMORE!!!!

@ditcin: Since you seem so concerned, why don't YOU come up with an idea and let us know?

This movie looks pretty creepy....definitely gives me a Strangers feel. I think they should have chose a better release date tho Summer is normally reserved for the bigger blockbusters in my opinion. I think it may do better being released in August or September.
