Upcoming Olive Films Titles

Posted April 18, 2013 07:12 PM by Webmaster

Olive FilmsIndependent distributors Olive Films have revealed that they are planning to add four new titles to their Blu-ray catalog: William A. Seiter's One Touch of Venus (1948), Joseph Kane's Flame of Barbary Coast (1945), Gene Fowler Jr.'s Showdown at Boot Hill (1958), and James L. Conway's Hangar 18 (1980). All four titles will be available for purchase in June.

One Touch of Venus

When a long-lost statue of Venus turns out to be the genuine article on an earthly assignment, a hapless department store clerk suddenly becomes the object of a furious employer, a jealous fiancee and one love-struck statue in this heavenly musical comedy of mistaken identity, based on the successful Broadway play. Starring screen goddess Academy Award nominee Ava Gardner and Robert Walker. A sparkling supporting cast including Eve Arden, Dick Haymes and Olga San Juan are put through their paces by a Kurt Weill score with lyrics by noted humorists S.J. Perelman and Ogden Nash.

Flame of Barbary Coast

John Wayne is "Duke," a good-hearted rancher from Montana who comes to San Francisco to collect a debt owed to him by Tito (Joseph Schildkraut), slick owner of a casino. he falls in love with Flaxen (Ann Dvorak), the beautiful saloon singer engaged to Tito! Duke loses his hard-earned bankroll at Tito's casino forcing him to leave town. But not for long! The next time he comes to town, his luck radically changes. In fact, he's so lucky that he almost cleans out Tito's casino. With his winnings, Duke builds a casino across the street from Tito, hiring Flaxen to star in his floor show. All goes well until the great San Francisco earthquake forces Duke, Flaxen and all the residents of the city to regroup and rebuild. William Frawley also stars in this exciting drama featuring "the Duke" at his larger then life finest.

Showdown at Boot Hill

Bounty hunter Luke Welsh arrives looking for a wanted man. When that man draws on him he has to kill him. To collect his reward he needs a statement identifying him. But the man was well liked in town and no one will sign such a statement. When he outdraws another man who thought he was faster, some townsmen decide he should be killed and they organize a mob to go after him. Starring Charles Bronson, Robert Hutton, John Carradine, Carole Mathews, and Argentina Brunetti.

Hangar 18

A satellite that is orbiting the earth collides with a UFO, which crashes in the United States. The President, in the midst of his re-election campaign, is determined to conceal the revelation that a craft full of alien bodies is in the U. S., so the ship and it's deceased crew are concealed in Hangar 18. Starring Gary Collins, Robert Vaughn, James Hampton, Pamela Bellwood, and Tom Hallick.

Hangar 18 is actually coming to blu-ray BEFORE a legitimate US DVD release, it seems! True, there was a Canadian DVD in 2003 (now long OOP), but it was pretty awful.
