Rambo First Lionsgate Title to Feature iTunes

Posted March 10, 2008 10:01 AM by Josh Dreuth

Lionsgate FilmsLionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Rambo' will be their first title to feature a digital copy of the film in the popular iTunes format. With this feature, those who purchase the disc will be able to copy the film legally to their iTunes based electronics (such as an iPod or iPhone). 'Rambo', the forth film in the popular Sylvester Stallone series, is currently scheduled to be released on May 27th.

I guess adding a digital copy is becoming the new trend with blu.

Excellent! I was hoping Blu-ray would jump on this technology. This will definitely help lower the
number of illegal downloads, or at least compete directly with legal downloads.

Sweet! Way to snub out those of us who have portable products that don't have an "i" at the beginning. Losers.

Just as they did with 3:10 to Yuma, Lionsgate is pushing the way forward. :-)

Ok fellow blu-ray addicts, help a non-tech guy out. Just how would I transfer this from my 20 gig PS3 (alll that was available to me on the PS3 release day) to my iphone? Do I link my PS3 to my PC via USB? I've never needed to do anything like that before so don't know how exactly that works. Thanks.

I would like this feature on all my blu-ray movies that way I can download to my itunes account and then syn with Apple TV and I won't have to get the blu-ray disc out everytime I want to watch....

I am with Borris on this one. How do we do it? Insert a memory card in the PS3 and then download on to the card for transfer to our PC or Mac for upload into iTunes? Instructions anyone?

I don't "get" it. I buy Blu-rays because I have a large HDTV and they look beautiful on it. I wouldn't commit 2 hours of my life to watch it on a tiny thing like an iPod or iPhone.

These seem like mutually exclusive viewing technologies.

It's a cool feature if I was a apple clone, why limit it to iproducts...

onumb

I imagine you would need a PC with Blu-ray drive installed to gain access to the digial copy. I suppose a player may have a function to download to a memory card, but that seems less likely.

And Josh, its the FOURTH film in the series. Thanks!

I already said I was going to buy Rambo, Lionsgate, so you don't have keep trying to sell to me.
But I do wish digital copies were compatible with the PSP also.

@shatta & @onumb

The way the digital copy works for the Family Guy - Blue Harvest is that there is a second disc
that you put in your Mac/PC running iTunes. There is also a paper with a code that you have to
type into iTunes (so you can't share it). I believe it will work the same way for Blu but I will know
for sure tomorrow when Hitman arrives. The file was not compatible with the PSP.

If the itunes version isn't locked into only itunes then this is fine but if it can't play on other devices such as the PSP then this is just crap.

devonthedude

What file format is it? Is it DRM protected so it won't work with a PSP unless converted?

Big_Rizzle

We will learn when it comes out but not adding a PSP file is wrong most people buying Blu Rays are watching them on a PS3 and ight own a PSP you know they work together why not add a PSP file it makes sense to me.

This is why I love Blu-ray! It mite be a so called incomplete format as of now but MAN can it do awesome things HD DVD couldn't do such as 7.1 PCM, a full featured movie, along with a digital copy of it mobile devices all on one 50GB disc.... Bad ass! And let's not forget about Hitman with it's digital copy for the PSP!! Sure I won't ever use these features but other people will get enjoyment from it! Just don't sacrifice video bitrate over this... pretty please haha

I too buy the movie to watch on my 60" tv. BUT I would love to be able to easily put a copy on my PSP to view on trips, or to use my psp as a dvd player on another tv (the new PSP can use component video output cables)

I hate that the studios is wasting space on these digital copies. The space should be prioritised for PCM main audio and DTS HD secondary audio and a picture of the highest possible quality. If there is any space left after this, thow in some extras - if there is still space left - they can consider Digitial versions for computer and other devices.

I want quality, dammit!
