Oliver and Company Blu-ray

Posted May 3, 2013 01:59 PM by Webmaster

Walt Disney PicturesWalt Disney Home Entertainment has revealed the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release of Oliver and Company, Walt Disney Animation Studios' 27th feature. The 1988 animated adaptation of Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist" streets on August 6th.

Synopsis: Disney's contemporary re-telling of Dickens' classic follows the misadventures of an orphaned kitten named Oliver (voiced by Joey Lawrence) who is taken in by a pack of pickpocket dogs, headed by Dodger (Billy Joel), the coolest quadruped in Manhattan, and their human master, Fagin (Dom DeLuise). When a little girl from Fifth Avenue finds Oliver and takes him uptown to live among the swells, Fagin's evil boss, Sykes (Robert Loggia), steps in and kidnaps the pair. His nasty plan to keep Oliver from having his customary nine lives is foiled, however, when the ransomed kitten's friends decide to use their street savoir faire to rescue their feline pal.

Tech specs have yet to be detailed. Special features include:

  • The Making of Oliver and Company
  • Bonus Shorts: Lend A Paw and Puss Café
  • Disney's Animated Animals
  • Sing-Along Mode
  • And More

Sounds like they're just porting over special features from the 2009 dvd and not adding any new ones. Disney being lazy again I guess.

Finally!!!!!
Ive been waiting for this since the initial mixup from the last DVD release press release several years ago implying that we should have seen a Bluray release then for the 20th anniversary

Until I saw him in his music videos, always wondered whatever happened to Billy Joel's acting career.
Still, Dodger rocking on "Why Should I Worry?" is probably THE last great closing-number hurrah of Disney's Ron Miller's post-Jungle Book "jaunty critter" years, considering that Little Mermaid would shake the studio one year later.
