August: Osage County

Posted May 10, 2013 06:14 PM by Webmaster

The Weinstein CompanyThe Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for John Wells' highly anticipated new film August: Osage County (2013), starring Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Ewan McGregor, Sam Shepard, Dermot Mulroney, Abigail Breslin, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film will open in theaters across the United States on November 8th.

Official synopsis: August: Osage County tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Tracy Letts' play made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run.

I think the male cast is great, I was sold with Ewan McGregor, Sam Shepard and Benedict Cumberbatch, and unsold with Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep. The female cast is shit.

I love this play, and I think the casting for this is near perfect! I'm so excited for this!!!

@Graham1138: How could ANYONE be "unsold" by Julia Roberts or especially Meryl Streep?

@RBBrittain, I think Meryl Streep is a pretty decent character actor, but Julia Roberts I think is pretty awful. She can act, sure, but she is highly annoying. Which I think most of America agrees with since she has not had an even remotely successful movie performance since Erin Brokovich.

I very much enjoyed the stage version on Broadway and, to judge from that trailer, the film looks very promising. The cast looks quite strong indeed. I look forward to seeing it.
