Star Trek: The Next Generation, Redemption & Season 4 Blu-rays Detailed

Posted May 15, 2013 05:44 PM by Webmaster

ParamountParamount and CBS Home Entertainment have officially announced and detailed the Blu-ray releases of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Redemption and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4. Both Redemption and the 6-disc season set arrive on Blu-ray on July 30th and feature newly remastered video presentations, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track and a variety of notable extras.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, Redemption

Stark Trek: The Next Generation, Redemption, similar to The Best of Both Worlds Blu-ray release before it, offers fans a seamlessly edited, feature-length presentation of the classic two-part episode that served as the Season Four finale and Season Five premiere. Penned by acclaimed sci-fi screenwriter Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), its story follows Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Lieutenant Worf (Michael Dorn) as they fight to end a Klingon civil war. Special features include:

  • Audio Commentary with Ronald D. Moore and Mike & Denise Okuda (New!)
  • Survive and Succeed: An Empire at War (HD, New!)
  • 2 Episodic Promos (SD)
Along with the disc's extensive audio commentary from Moore and scenic artists/Star Trek consultants Mike and Denise Okuda, the Blu-ray edition also includes the exclusive documentary, "Survive and Succeed: An Empire at War." This newly produced special feature explores the Klingon mythology of Star Trek: The Next Generation and features all-new interviews with writer/producer Moore, who, in addition to "Redemption," wrote some of the franchise's most memorable Klingon storylines, and some of the actors who played the most renowned Klingon characters including Dorn (Worf), Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) and Gwynyth Walsh (B'Etor).

The Blu-ray release of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Redemption is presented in 1080p with English 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, English Stereo Surround, French Mono, German Mono, Castilian Mono, Italian Mono, and Japanese Mono. The disc also includes English SDH, and French, German, Castilian, Italian, Japanese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4

From the season premiere -- the epic conclusion of the two-part cliffhanger "The Best Of Both Worlds" -- to its thrilling finale "Redemption" Part 1, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4 is distinguished as one of the most favored amongst fans. The 6-disc set features all 26 episodes of the fourth season, fully remastered in a stunning high definition presentation hailed by critics, including our own Martin Liebman, who called the third season Blu-ray release "one of the finest releases of 2012." Extras include:

  • Episode Audio Commentaries with Rob Bowman, Brannon Braga, Mike Okuda, Denise Okuda and Ronald D. Moore
  • Relavitity: The Family Saga of The Next Generation - A multi-part documentary that examines both the show's explosion into a pop culture phenomenon after its third season and the Enterprise crew's interpersonal bonds and family relationships, as depicted in "Brothers" and "Reunion."
  • In Conversation: The Art Department - A look at some of TNG's most-iconic designs, complemented by fresh interviews with production team members Herman Zimmerman, Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach, the Okudas, Dan Curry and more.
  • Departmental Briefing Year Four: Production
  • Mission Overview Year Four
  • Selected Crew Analysis Year Four
  • New Life and New Civilizations
  • Chronicles from the Final Frontier
  • Season 4 Gag Reel
  • Episodic Promos
In addition to all-new commentary tracks on select episodes with some of the franchise's biggest names, including writers Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga, and director Rob Bowman, the collection also includes brand new exclusive special features, among them never-before-released deleted scenes. With "Relativity - The Family Saga of Star Trek: The Next Generation," fans will uncover special insight into particular challenges facing the production of the fourth season. This multi-part documentary focuses on the series' evolution after its critically acclaimed third season turned the show into a crossover hit, while also giving viewers a special look into the personal relationships and family bonds of the crew of the Enterprise with key episodes such as "Reunion" and "Brothers."

Also, "In Conversation: The Art Department" offers an unprecedented look into the creation of some of the series' most iconic designs through interviews with production designer Herman Zimmerman, illustrator Doug Drexler, illustrator and technical consultant Rick Sternbach, scenic art supervisor Michael Okuda, scenic artist Denise Okuda and FX maestro Dan Curry, each revealing fascinating background into how the series cemented the look of the 24th century.

Let's hope Target gives us another excellent bundle deal with S4 and this.

If Target doesn't do a bundle deal, I'll just wait for season 5 to be out before watching both episodes

Lets hope target not only have another killer deal but learned their lessons and ship more copies to their stores. My store got only one copy of season 3

Cool stuff. Also cool that Paramount is offering these cliffhanger/season openers as single releases, i.e. The Best of Both Worlds.

59.99 is the magic number for me. So far I have been able to pick up the first three seasons for less than 60.00. There is no question I will purchase Season 4. Make it so Number One.

If TNG is ever rebooted, Terry Crews must be Worf. And Jason Statham as Picard.

Redemption would be something I would consider buying. But Time's Arrow or The Descent? Not so much.

..."our own Martin Liebman, who called the third season Blu-ray release 'one of the finest releases of 2012.'"

Since Season 3 was released on April 30, 2013, I think there's a typo there somewhere.

Not entirely relevant but I hope they put Redemption in theatres for one night like they did with Best of Both Worlds. That was a lot of fun.

I wonder if they will do this to DS9 after they are done with TNG.

...and Voyager. I couldn't get into DS9, but if it comes out on blu ray I'll probably give it another shot. I think it was the ferengi character that kept me away, I found those buggers ultra-annoying whenever they popped up on TNG, so having one as a regular character may have been too much for me.
