Hmm, wonder why they didn't release just a season 1 box set.
Do want, but I'm worried what the prices are going to be.

Those sets look incredible, so it's a shame that they are probably going to be expensive beyond belief.

@insomniac013, That's exactly what I'm worried about.
When are they going to realize most Americans will not pay that for anime >_<

It's made by the studio, so more likely a "prestige" item than, say Funimation picking up the series.
So, are partial-season sets becoming the replacement for those single disks that anime fans started avoiding to buy the Complete Series boxes instead? SAO only ran two seasons, so it's likely we'll see something more complete down the road.

(And was the second half of the series story any good? I've only gotten partway through the first half, but the "Fairy Dance" half of the series looks like it has extra-season jumped-shark written all over it.)

Pretty much. The first season, for all its faults, was at least fun to watch. The second season... wasn't so much.

Seems like .hack//Sign on a wider scale.
I've seen the first episode. It was good.
I'll need to see more before final judgement is passed.
