Open Road Films has released a new trailer for director Robert Rodriguez's latest project, Machete Kills (2013), starring Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Sofía Vergara, Antonio Banderas, and Danny Trejo. The film is set to arrive in theaters across the United States on September 13th.
Official film summary: In Machette Kills, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.
The first one was a huge disappointment. That and Planet Terror have convinced me that Rodriguez knows the building blocks of good grindhouse, but doesn't know how to piece them together into a good movie. Everything's a throwaway gag with him. He gets that grindhouse movies are made on the cheap with occasionally hammy actors. But the ones you remember and watch again and again have something more: a decent story, bad ass characters, good camerawork, or a palpable style. Rodriguez keeps making movies of the forgettable grindhouse variety, while Tarantino gets it and knows you need some style and awesome characters to get people to love the movie and want to watch it again and again. I totally agree with Sky_Captain85 -- Rodriguez' films just feel juvenile.
