Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced and detailed the Blu-ray release of Oblivion. The post-apocalyptic action thriller stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo, and is set to arrive via a BD/DVD/UltraViolet combo pack on August 6th.
Synopsis: Based on director Joseph Kosinski's acclaimed graphic novel, Oblivion follows Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), a drone repairman working with his partner Vika (Riseborough) to salvage vital resources from a desolate, nearly-ruined future Earth. As their assignment approaches its final days, Jack rescues a beautiful stranger (Kurylenko) from a downed spacecraft, triggering a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows, and leaves humanity's fate in his hands.
The Blu-ray release of Oblivion features 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround track, and several extras:
Feature Commentary with Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski
Promise of a New World - The Making of Oblivion:
Destiny: Conceptualization, development and pre-production
Voyage: The design and creation of the Bubble Ship (BD exclusive)
Combat: Action and stunts with Tom Cruise (BD exclusive)
Illusion: Post-production and visual effects
Harmony: The musical world of French electronic/shoegaze band M83
Nowhere near as derivative as Star Trek Into Darkness, and that movie's been praised by just about everyone, I guess for being loud and stupid. Who knows. What I do know is that Oblivion was more committed to creating an immersive, elegantly filmed world in order to tell cerebrally paced story. So, yeah, day one for me as well.
Another fast release! This is why I dont rush out to the movies anymore... I knew this would be out before summers end. Now I'll get to see this in the comfort of my home with friends ....hope it's good
7.1 DTS - HD Fantastic.I have not seen this film but i cant wait i might blind buy this film.or rent it and if i like it then i will pick it up.Very happy about the 7.1 sound tho.i am praying to god that star trek into darkness bluray is 7.1 aswell.
Day 1 buy for me easy. The visuals were most impressive in this flick and even though the story is a 'bit' of a rehash of other films... I really dug it. And... I know this may not be popular opinion... but I beleived Oblivion to be a far better time in the old theater seat than Iron Man 3.
Someone made the comment about Universal dropping the iTunes digital copies? Is this a new development? Because yesterday I just picked up a new Universal release, Identity Thief and it had ITUNES digital copy and digital copy was HD!
Good movie that will probably be better regarded over time. I found it to be pretty affecting. The end in particular stayed in my head for days. It wasn't the kind of thing I wanted to see again right away but I'm now eager to. The score is also mesmerizing.
