Oblivion Blu-ray

Posted June 4, 2013 09:39 AM by Webmaster

Universal 100thUniversal Studios Home Entertainment has announced and detailed the Blu-ray release of Oblivion. The post-apocalyptic action thriller stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo, and is set to arrive via a BD/DVD/UltraViolet combo pack on August 6th.

Synopsis: Based on director Joseph Kosinski's acclaimed graphic novel, Oblivion follows Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), a drone repairman working with his partner Vika (Riseborough) to salvage vital resources from a desolate, nearly-ruined future Earth. As their assignment approaches its final days, Jack rescues a beautiful stranger (Kurylenko) from a downed spacecraft, triggering a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows, and leaves humanity's fate in his hands.

The Blu-ray release of Oblivion features 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround track, and several extras:

  • Feature Commentary with Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski
  • Deleted Scenes

I know this movie had it's share of haters but I loved it... this will be a day one purchase for me.

Pretty decent Sci-Fi flick. Had several elements that felt recycled from other Sci-Fi greats, but the acting and effects made up for those small road blocks.

Damn it...that isolated score clinched it. I was going to pass on this film, even while enjoying and still thinking about it since April but the disc looks loaded.

I'm in. Between this, Jack Reacher, and MI4, Tom Cruise is back on track, IMO. Some great output lately.

I'm in as well. I know this pulled greatly from Duncan Jones' Moon, but I really enjoyed it regardless. Can't wait to see it again on blu.

I was surprised with how great this was. Not a singular, original achievement in science fiction but a solid, entertaining, and uncommonly thoughtful one. Day 1 for me.

Getting this day one! The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that Morgan freeman wasn't even in it that long. He doesn't even come into the movie about an hour into it.

Nowhere near as derivative as Star Trek Into Darkness, and that movie's been praised by just about everyone, I guess for being loud and stupid. Who knows. What I do know is that Oblivion was more committed to creating an immersive, elegantly filmed world in order to tell cerebrally paced story. So, yeah, day one for me as well.

Day one for me. Despite what some may think of Tom Cruise nowadays, one has to admit that he still makes the best movies out there today, and Oblivion is no exception.

They borrowed a lot from other sci-fi but they did it with panache. I'll be getting it and recommend it to any sci-fi fans.

I think I might give this a second chance on BD. I wasn't all that impressed when I saw it, I liked the look of the movie but it seemed to drag at times. Deserves a re-watch though.

I hope not. First of all, it wasn't shot on IMAX. Second, it was PEREFECTLY framed in 2,40:1.

i liked the movie for several reasons, and can not get enough of the soundtrack, so this is a pickup for me no doubt; however, why oh why did they choose that cover art?

i was hoping for something like the one that amazon had on their page for the movie. hmm, anyone know the steelbook options for this yet?

Day 1 buy for me easy. The visuals were most impressive in this flick and even though the story is a 'bit' of a rehash of other films... I really dug it. And... I know this may not be popular opinion... but I beleived Oblivion to be a far better time in the old theater seat than Iron Man 3.

Hi:
Someone made the comment about Universal dropping the iTunes digital copies? Is this a new development? Because yesterday I just picked up a new Universal release, Identity Thief and it had ITUNES digital copy and digital copy was HD!

Good movie that will probably be better regarded over time. I found it to be pretty affecting. The end in particular stayed in my head for days. It wasn't the kind of thing I wanted to see again right away but I'm now eager to. The score is also mesmerizing.
