Blu-ray Sales on the Rise

Posted March 26, 2008 11:15 AM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray Disc New data from HMR Research shows that the 9 million movies have been sold on Blu-ray since inception of the format in the United States, with 3 million of those having been sold during the first 11 weeks of this year. If this trend continues, Blu-ray is poised to sell nearly 15 million units in this year alone.

The recent release of blockbuster Hollywood movies on Blu-ray has boosted overall sales. The Miramax release of 'No Country for Old Men' sold 68,000 copies on Blu-ray during its first week of sales, a huge accomplishment for a format where previous top sellers this year were selling only 30,000 copies during their first week of sales.

As more highly anticipated titles get released onto store shelves, such as Fox's April 15th release of 'Juno', sales are expected to continue to grow throughout the remainder of the year.

Now that everyone in the HDM communities can focus on Blu-ray, we can really concentrate those
sales and get them up Up UP! Imagine if all the HD DVD supported were to suddenly accept Blu-ray,
the sales would go way up!
What was the goal for the year in units?

You HEAR that Studios? We want BLOCKBUSTERS!

No more dreck! Give us more of the good stuff! Sort the users here - find the people with only one post - see what they're bitching about not having on Blu - and there's your list.

No country for old men was leaked to be region free, 2 weeks before release. Many thousands would have been Region B importers.

Thanks to Mirmax for not region coding, it makes them wealthier and region B'ers happy.

Good. Now lower the prices for Blu-ray stand alone players and internal Blu-ray computer drives.

If we could lower the cost a bit and get some good titles released then people would buy a lot more.

Alright I'll be the first to say it here, more and more BOGO's would also help increase the sold unit number!!!!! LOL
