Open Road Films has released the first trailer for director Joshua Michael Stern's Jobs (2013), starring Ashton Kutcher, Dermot Mulroney, James Woods, Lukas Haas, and Matthew Modine. The film premiered during the closing night of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and is set to open in theaters across the United States on August 16th.
Official synopsis: Jobs is an incredibly personal story covering nearly 40 years of Steve Jobs' life and an intensely character-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is a personal tale. An ultimately inspiring story, Jobs pulls no punches and does not speculate, only telling the truthful real life events as seen through his eyes, emotions, and ingenuity. The life of Steve Jobs.
This is interesting since Ashton Kutcher is not the serious role type. But at the same time this doesn't look very good. I don't see him as Steve Jobs in the preview, I see him as Ashton Kutcher playing a loose interpretation of Steve Jobs (emphasis on loose).
In addition, the trailer is a bit cheesy, and the font that they used throughout (not to mention the poster) doesn't make many connections to Apple, other than the font being similar but not in the same field. This all seems to me like something that's trying to be "The Social Network", especially with the tag lines.
