Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season Blu-ray

Posted June 24, 2013 11:26 PM by Webmaster

HBOHBO Home Entertainment has officially announced and dated the Blu-ray release of Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season. HBO and Best Buy are also hosting a social media poll to determine which design will be used for the Best Buy exclusive packaging. The series' critically hailed third season streets on February 18, 2014.

The standard retail box set will feature the dragon shadow image. However, the fate of the exclusive Best Buy packaging is in the hands of fans. Over the past two years, the sigil box art sold at the nationwide retailer has become a favorite among fans who've taken to message boards and social platforms to speculate over which images will be featured, and then struggle over which one to purchase. Now they can decide via a social media poll. There are three options: a "Character Edition," featuring third season poster art of Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke; "Season 3 New Sigils," featuring the sigils of Houses Tyrell, Tully and Stannis Baratheon, who were prominent this season; or "Bring Back Your Favorite Sigil," with Houses Stark and Targaryen (Season 1) and Lannister (Season 2).

"We love that Game of Thrones fans are so passionate and vocal about our home entertainment products and the reaction to the Best Buy exclusive packaging has been fantastic for two years running," said Meredith Vincent, VP of Marketing, HBO Home Entertainment. "This is a fun and exciting way to reward fans and give them a direct voice into what is created for the next release."

The polling is hosted on the Game of Thrones Facebook page. There fans will find a gallery of the exclusive packaging options andcan cast their single vote by "liking" the appropriate image. The votes will be tallied in real-time so fans can keep track of which option is gaining the most support. Voting ends on Sunday, July 21st and the winning art will be revealed on both the Game of Thrones and Best Buy Facebook pages, and will be available for pre-order, on Friday, August 2nd.

The Best Buy exclusive packaging will be available in all retail locations nationwide and additional international stores to be confirmed at a later date. Information on the BD/DVD bonus features will be announced by the end of year.

Yes! Day one! This season was the best one yet, this post just made a man very happy

We need those Tyrell, Baratheon and Tully banners! Already have the Stark, Lannister, Targaryan ones... plus that Burning stag cover is beautiful!

I really hope we get those scenes that were filmed but cut due to time restraints, Kate Dickie filmed for 2 episodes this year as Lysa Arryn, there was a scene cut from the finale with Mance Rayder, some scenes cut with Selyse Baratheon, some littlefinger scenes from the last half of the season and a scene with Tywin & Pycelle on a boat

And who are you the proud lord said, that i must bow so low?

I wish they would release these sooner. I hate how shows always take so long to come out on blu ray/dvd.
I don't watch these on tv, I just wait until it comes out and I buy it new.

Agreed CReaper,

these would also make great xmas presents, you would think HBO would have thought of that by now. I have HBO so luckily i get to see the episodes the night they air, alot of my friends also wait until the Blu ray is available and its torture for them

It's ridiculous how long it takes for each season of Game of Thrones to come out on blu-ray. Doesn't it normally only take about 3-4 months after a season finishes? Why does it have to take twice as long for GOT? Because the wait will just ensure people go out and buy them day 1 to give HBO lots of money? Yep. That'll happen. It also forces most of us to just rewatch the show again, sometimes twice by the time it comes out and by that time, we aren't dying to buy it anymore. I used to wait but I'm getting more impatient as I get older.

^ HBO has this thing about releasing there BR/DVDs about a month or so before the new season, not always, but usually, for most shows its about 4-5 months, for HBO shows, about 8-9 months, unfortunately

^ Yeah, I thought this was normal. AMC does the same thing with their shows.

Keep in mind it takes time to prepare a release. Special features don't just produce themselves, and that's just one time-consuming aspect of a television release

Shows are pretty much always released 1 month before the new season premieres. The wait for network shows is just shorter because there's less time between the finale and premier. As far as I know, it's always been like this.

Best Show ever!!

If I had to choose the box label, I would go either Daenerys or House of Stark

Wait, so is the boring dragon poster the official Blu Ray cover?! Seriously!?!! Making the US store exclusives the superior.... Fuck off HBO!

(Store exclusivity is the absolute worst)

The BBC do it right. They release Blu-rays the Monday after a season finale.

^ Yep. British shows get released almost immediately after the season ends. It's excellent.

Personally, I love the dragon shadow art on the standard box. That's the one I'm getting. I already pre-ordered it about two months ago on Amazon. Yes, HBO's release schedule of their shows is pretty bad.

Yeah these take way too long to come out. Its ridiculous to wait 7 or 8 months after a show has ended for it to be released. DVD special features don't take long to produce, as most are done while the show is in production, there were a ton of interviews for season 3 online before and during the shows run, all probably will make their way to the dvd.

The previous season is always released as part of the hype for the new season, usually about 1 month before hand. This is not an HBO practice. This is a nearly universal practice when it comes to TV shows in the US. I'm surprised some of you haven't caught on to this yet.

This was definitely the best season so far! I hope they go with the Tully/Baratheon/Tyrell line. I got one of each of the first 4, and I'd like to keep the collection going.

I kinda want them to release the older three again. Not everyone buys multiple copies of the same season for a piece of cardboard, so it'd be cool to catch the ones previously missed. And start new ones with season 4

I have Stark and Lannister so I would like to buy House Targaeryn, but I'd settle for Baratheon

I'm with you, JMDiaz718. I like the dragon art the best, too. We pre-ordered on Amazon a few weeks ago. We got a fantastic deal on Season 2 by having it pre-ordered. We picked it up for like $30.00 or $35.00 bucks. Yay for getting the lowest price during pre-order season!

It's pretty typical for companies to release the previous season a month or even a few weeks before the show comes back on. It builds hype. I'm really hoping they get those new sigil slip covers, I'm not that interested in the "face" covers, and why bring back the old ones? Seems silly to do that so soon, maybe for seasons 4 or 5?

Hmmm...torn on this one. I like the Stannis Baratheon one but I also would like a reissue of the Targaryen one. Maybe they could do a mix. Either way its a long wait until it streets.

You know how some TV shows are great the first season because the writers get their best work out not knowing if the audience gets it or the network will pick them up? Well that doesn't apply here!
Season one hooked me, even with the shitty preview trailers, season two just built on the characters and story and this year just blew me away! Twists, turns, surprises and a story line that doesn't fail to amaze and keep me guessing at ever turn.
WOW! If you haven't discovered this series yet your doing yourself a disservice!
HBO has, without a doubt, the best shows on TV. Newsroom, Veep, Girls, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire.
First day buy, I actually preordered this early April!

So wait, they are going to bring back the BBY exclusive covers of Stark/Lannister/Targaryen in conjunction with the possible new sigils?

Passed both seasons 1 and 2 BBY exlusive sigil covers but might bite this time around on all three if the price is fair.
