British distributors Eureka Entertainment have announced that they will release on Blu-ray F.W. Murnau's classic horror film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horrors. Restored in Germany by the world-renowned Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung (FWMS), Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horrors will also be screened in select theaters across the United Kingdom.
The film's theatrical release is set for Friday October 25, 2013. Blu-ray and DVD releases of the new restoration are expected to arrive on the market in November.
F.W. Murnau's silent vampire classic. Count Orlok (Max Schreck) decides to move from his ruined castle to the city of Bremen and hires real estate agent Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to make the arrangements for him. But Orlok is also the vampire Nosferatu, and when he takes a shine to Hutter's young wife Ellen (Greta Schroder), it seems that the worst is indeed possible. Adapted from Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' (though with character names changed for legal reasons), Murnau's film also features some of the most famous sequences in cinema, including the count's climb up the stairs to Ellen's room, his claw-hand outstretched and his crooked shadow on the wall.
Awesome news. I wish I could attend one of these film screenings. Oh well, will make do with the blu-ray. I hope they have all the extras (including the 80-page booklet) of their DVD release for the BD release as well.
