Restored L'avventura Heading Back to the Big Screen

Posted June 28, 2013 08:00 PM by Webmaster

Janus FilmsJanus Films has released a new trailer for legendary Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni's classic film L'avventura (1960), starring Gabriele Ferzetti, Monica Vitti, and Lea Massari. The trailer is for a new 35mm restoration of the film which will be screened at New York's Film Forum from Friday, July 12 through Thursday, July 25.

The newly restored 35mm print of L'Avventura was created from a restoration negative courtesy of Cinématographique Lyre, Mediaset, and CINETECA NAZIONALE-Fondazione Scuola Nazionale di Cinematografia.

Official synopsis: A girl mysteriously disappears on a yachting trip. While her lover and her best friend search for her across Italy, they begin an affair. Antonioni's penetrating study of the idle upper class offers stinging observations on spiritual isolation and the many meanings of love.

Note: In the United States, L'avventura is currently available only on DVD courtesy of The Criterion Collection. See our listing of this release here.

I hate that NY gets all the good stuff. Wish those of us who live elsewhere could see things like this on the big screen.

Looking forward to revisiting this on the big screen sometime in the near future (whenever it tours and makes its way up here that is)
Really glad it'll be on 35mm and not that DCP garbage either.

@majorkonig41, I hear you, but how many tickets do you think they'd sell in Crotchscratch, Arkansas.

I've long wanted to see L'avventura. I feel privileged to be able to see it here in New York at the Film Forum, a theater which has repeatedly given me the opportunities to see so many of the classics on the big screen. Opportunities I've often taken advantage of. Kudos to Film Forum for its terrific programming of such landmark films (and brand new independent films).

And, like everyone else, I'll also look forward to L'avventura's blu-ray upgrade from Criterion.
