So glad I waited on the later sets so I won't have to double-dip.

Even upscaled BDs of the first four seasons may be worth it; the compression on the DVDs is pretty bad and shows a ton of macroblocking. (I'm watching on a 90" projector screen.) Hopefully they'll go up for sale individually at some point.

Interesting that the Complete Specials aren't mentioned, though. One would hope that's just an oversight in the press release...

Already have season 5 & 6 + the specials on Blu, so I'll wait for individual releases. Pretty cool set, though, if you're a first-timer!

I looked a little closer at the images and The Complete Specials looks like it will be included. Too bad they aren't waiting a couple months so they can include the last couple of episodes of Smith's run.

I'd need to wait for a review about the quality of the first four series before I think about upgrading.

I can't wait for this. The DVDs for series 1-4 are horrible, hopefully with a new upconvert and lossless audio they will be great.

this just makes me think of all the people who said it can't be done... lol I got so excited about this I almost threw up.

I have 5 and 6 already so I'll maybe see if they do them individually, or wait for the set to go down some.

Yeah. This is what I've been waiting for. Only watched a few episodes out of order and thought it was a little weird, but cool.
This is expensive as hell though. How much would this be without the remote? Dang

CReaper210, this set isn't really that expensive when you consider what is in it. The list prices of the already available S5, S6 and S7 Blu-rays ($90 each) and the Tennant Specials Blu-rays ($60) total $330, which is already quite close to the list price of this set ($350). Add in the Sonic Screwdriver Remote (list price $120) and the presumed list prices of S1-S4 if sold separately (I'd guess $60 or $70 each -- $90 per season seems too high for the 4 upconverted sets), and the "sold separately" list price of this set would be $690-$730.

I'm thinking this will be 30% off or so at Amazon on release week ($245), which would be a pretty good deal for the 8 Blu-ray sets plus the screwdriver remote. And it very well could be $199 on release week or during the holiday season, as that number seems like an attractive price point.

If only they waited and added the 50th and the upcoming Christmas Special, we'd have a set with the complete Doctors Nine, Ten and Eleven. But I believe that's the most minor offense in the world. I've been watching the prices of all the individual sets, hoping to get a good deal, and it looks like this will probably be the best option. Fantastic!

@Diditagain Wow, I didn't know the individual seasons cost that much. That's expensive too!
Well, I'll definitely be waiting for a deal on Amazon or another store before I get it.

@CReaper210 - I believe it's something to do with the international broadcast rights or something along those lines.

season 5 and 6 have gone down really cheap, here's hoping it is somehow reflected in the box set.. and maybe they'll be the exact same season sets.. the product image shows 5 and 6 as an amaray case but they come in the slipcover digipak things.

When I can find this for ~$200, it will be mine. And I have to assume that some sale will have it around there within 6 months of release. Woot!

I am hoping they have a space saved for the 50th and the 2013 x-mas kinda like they did in Bond 50 with a space reserved for Skyfall.

At Tenchi. These look like they are individual cases, no need to leave space. I am hoping for individual releases for 1-4.

I'm sure BBC Video will be releasing S1-S4 Blu-rays individually, my guess is early next year. While plenty of people will be purchasing this limited edition set in the fall (it screams "big ticket holiday set"), BBC Video surely knows there are lots of fans who will gladly purchase individual Blu-ray sets of the first four seasons.

Ah, a (pricey) giftset. Pass. Waiting like others for 1-4 separate releases, hope they are awesome.

@fdm Not sure if I'll bother with this as it would be a fair bit of hard work selling all my individual seasons but this is far from pricey. The sonic screwdriver remote sells for $100 on its own. The price is currently at $314 which will drop BUT removing the remote price brings it down to $214 for EIGHT SEASONS (including the specials). That's only $26.75 a set, without taking into consideration the fact that it'll no doubt drop in price.

With how much content you're getting in special features as well, it's far from bad. Consider this: Dexter's complete series sets are between $300 and $380 and they're basically barebones. Only 3 hours of new material is being given to the new set plus a picture book.

Yeah but, don't need/want any stinkin' sonic screwdriver... The Dexter box has a certain appeal, but again don't need any more stinkin' super duper deluxe box sets with extra junk in them, gave them up years ago (and before then it was a rare once in a while for me).

Anyway I already have all the seasons that are out, except for 7, of Dr Who, don't mind too much the double dip on the first 4, since they've more or less been "on deck" since I got them (started to watch the first season once). Dexter, just need the last season, which this time around will be a blind buy.
