Band of Brothers Blu-ray in Works for 2008

Posted March 31, 2008 08:40 AM by Josh Dreuth

HBOIn the latest issue of Home Media Magazine, writer John Latchem interviewed Sofia Chang, Senior Vice President of Marketing for HBO Video with regards to the upcoming release of the mini-series 'John Adams' for DVD (no Blu-ray release has been announced at this time). At the conclusion of the interview, he asked when the popular 'Band of Brothers' mini-series would see Blu-ray release. She replied that a version was in the works for release later this year.

Currently, the only way to see 'Band of Brothers' in high definition is to import the now discontinued HD DVD releases from Japan (which were released by Toshiba). Now that HBO is readying the set, those highly anticipating the set (yours truly included) await anxiously for an official release date.

Excited for this. And I agree with the earlier comment about there being English subtitles. I know it is in English, but we turn on the subtitles for many movies, and the SD DVD version has junky subtitles. I hope these are better, as Blu almost always has outstanding subtitles.

This is a mandatory buy!!
The dvd set is good quality picture wise so the blu ray version should be stunning, the series cost an amazing 87 million to make, making it the most expensive show ever done, but when you see it you will understand why
AN AWESOME SERIES

I'm calling a $149.99 MSRP on this one.

Anyone else placing bets?

dakshdar
 - Apr 01, 2008

Vote plusVote minus Report as inappropriate

I wonder how much better the video will be as the episodes are somewhat intentionally bleak (colorwise) and grainy.

Clearly the audio can step it up, but the DTS track on the DVDs is pretty good.

My biggest question mark would be price, since it is likely to retail for well over $100.

I'm happy with the DVD set for the $25 I paid for it.

Now this is a great announcement. Probably the best mini series I've ever seen. I was just talking to someone about this the other day and was talking about whether or not it would get to Blu-ray sooner or later. I'm so happy about this. Now I must brace myself for the price.
