IMAX Corporation and Summit Entertainment announced today that Divergent, the big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth's bestselling novel, will be remastered into IMAX and released worldwide on Mar 21, 2014. Divergent is the first installment in a sci-fi trilogy that is shot in Roth's home city of Chicago.
Official Synopsis: Divergent is directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist) from a screenplay by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor and Burger and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Kate Winslet (Titanic). The film is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.
Don't care. I am tired of these teenybopper dystopian future bullshit books getting turned into movies. Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, 1984, anything by William Gibson or Phillip K. Dick really deserves movie treament more than these new shitty books geared towards 13 year old girls.
prkprkprk - Yes. Exactly. Go to your local Barnes & Noble YA section, and you'll see that Dystopian Fate-Mandating Societies are the new Vampires. We'll be in for this latest teen-literary slog for the next few years, until something else comes along.
Trouble is is that most studios now would try to make these classics (ie Fahrenheit 451, Brave new World, Gibson, Dick etc) to fit the 14year old girl mindset and cast accordingly. Thus, we'd get things like the Illustrated Man starring Seth Rogan, Mila Kunis, Miley Cyrus, and "special cameo" by Justin Beiber Written and directed by the mind of Ashton Kutcher.
