Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray edition of Dexter: The Final Season, and revealed two different Complete Series releases in display-ready packaging: a blood-slide box Collection set and an Amazon.com Exclusive Gift Set. All three contain the eighth and final season, and the two Complete Series sets feature an exclusive bonus disc with more than three hours of extras and an art book. Street date is November 5th.
Season Eight Synopsis: The end begins for Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in a climactic new season. After meeting the psychiatrist who helped create Harry's code, Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling), and desperately working to save Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) from her destructive, guilt-ridden downward spiral, Dexter must confront his own dark origins. Only one thing is certain... somebody is going to meet their maker.
Dexter: The Final Season features 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround. Extras have yet to be detailed. Dexter: The Complete Series 1-8 Collection and Dexter: The Complete Series 1-8 Collection Exclusive Gift Set include all eight seasons; the first in a collectible recreation of the actual blood slide box used by Dexter Morgan to catalog his victims on the show, the second showcased in sleek, collectible "bust/head" packaging representing an anonymous Dexter kill.
Also designed and included specifically for the Complete Series sets is "Grafix: The Art of Dexter," a collection of photography, fan artwork and iconography and images used in the series' cutting edge promotional campaigns. Finally, fans will enjoy an all-new bonus disc with access to over three hours of behind-the-scene interviews, featurettes and more:

That Amazon Exclusive is silly. Product designers need to figure out that people have shelves these things need to fit on, and if they're like me, they have limited space, so they need to utilize space sparingly. I'll still to the slide box that can be stacked on something like... The Friends Box Set or Lost Complete Series.
We need to petition Paramount to use the Region B versions of the seasons with the extras on the discs including an audio commentary on the season 4 finale with John Lithgow and episode director Steve Shill.
Love the idea of the box, but it's probably just paper made to look like wood. Think I might steal their idea, buy some disc trays and make a box myself, with real wood and a real metal latch, maybe line it with crimson velvet or something, for a fraction of the price. Based on amazon's current 30% off price, considering the seasons have been on sale for $20 each or less, you'd be paying about $140 for the box and art book, which I'd thumb through the later, maybe once.
The blood slide box looks really cool. The Amazon exclusive looks too large.
I think I will rewatch the entire series once the final season finally comes out. Unless the ending is so bad that it kills it for me. Hopefully not.
Looking forward to purchasing the bust. It looks incredible.
Fortunately I watched season 1 years ago and loved it but for whatever reason never got around to watching the others so this complete collection will be a treat. Nothing better than lining up a whole run of a great series and watching the episodes at your own (mostly frantic) pace.
