Independent U.S. distributors Code Red have confirmed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray cult Italian director Lucio Fulci's Voci dal profondo a.k.a Voices From Beyond (1991), starring Duilio Del Prete, Karina Huff, and Pascal Persiano. The release is expected to arrive on the market later this year.
Code Red have also revealed that they are preparing a Blu-ray release of director Romano Scavolini's Nightmare (1981), starring Baird Stafford, Sharon Smith, and C.J. Cooke. A preliminary street date for this upcoming release, however, is yet to be revealed.
From the diabolical mind of Italian horror legend Lucio Fulci, the man behind The Beyond and Zombie Flesh Eaters, comes one of his final voyages into the supernatural, laced with his trademark scenes of terror and mayhem. The unexpected death of wealthy, middle-aged Giorgio from an internal hemorrhage has cast suspicion on his scheming family, all of whom had reasons to commit murder. Rosy, the innocent daughter, is tormented by her father's spirit, who demands the revelation of his killer. Could it be Giorgio's wife, his mistress, his stepson or his stepmother? Or perhaps an even more fiendish mind is at work within the dark, deadly confines of their sprawling estate? Soon Rosy's life is in danger as well as she races against time to unmask the face of true evil and silence the unearthly voice of a ghost out for justice.
Escaped mental patient George (Baird Stafford) repeatedly suffers a graphic nightmare that depicts the axe murders of a couple making love. In Florida, a prowler stalks a babysitter - when she is attacked the youngest child she is looking after just sits and laughs... George begins a journey of brutal murder, death and destruction until the final moment of truth when his nightmares come to frightening life!
Nice. I'm gonna pick up both, I'm especially happy with the re-release of Nightmare. I didn't get it when it was first released on DvD, and considering the crazy ass prices on ebay for it, this is pretty sweet.
Wonderful news - I really hope these at least do some moderate business to get Code Red out of the DVD rut. As someone else said, Voices From Beyond aint one of Fulci's best, but I'll most likely get this at the very least to support Blu-ray on the Code Red label.
Now if we can have some of their previous releases that have been mastered in HD I'll be very happy.
Man...this is one of the Fulci's I didn't think would ever hit BD. Fulci's last good film IMO is 'The Devil's Honey'...so I don't know how I feel about this. They should've gone with that or 'Murder Rock' instead (I assume Media Blasters doesn't have rights given they went belly up). With all the great Fulci titles out there, they pick one of the abysmal ones.
@BobyPeru - If you dig Fulci's style than I would say absolutely check this one out. It's not up to par with some of his earlier work, but a really cool film none-the-less. Atmospheric, surreal, nasty goodness...
