Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced the highly anticipated 2D, 3D, and 3D Collector's Edition combo pack releases of director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Russell Crowe. The action-packed superhero blockbuster arrives on November 12th.
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is perhaps the most recognized and revered character of all time. In Snyder's Man of Steel, Clark Kent (Cavill) is a young journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question: why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents (Costner and Lane), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack by the villainous Kryptonian, General Zod (Shannon). Will Clark's abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as Superman, not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
The film is produced by Charles Roven, Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Entertainment. Thomas Tull, Lloyd Phillips and Jon Peters served as executive producers.
Man of Steel will be available as a Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, a Blu-ray Combo Pack, and as a 3D Limited Collector's Edition. The 3D Collector's Edition includes a limited release metal "S" glyph with a lucite glass stand. All versions include a standard DVD and UltraViolet digital copy. Amazon is also offering an exclusive Action Figure Gift Set, which includes two 1:16 scale figurines -- Superman and General Zod -- from DC Collectibles sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios. Measuring approximately 4.5 inches tall, these hand-painted, PVC figurines are bundled with a 2D Blu-ray combo pack.
The Blu-ray editions of Man of Steel feature 1080p video, lossless audio and the following extras:

@BluBonnet - Walmart is getting an exclusive which they've given a perfectly Blu-ray case sized pre-order bonus magnet for. This implies a metal case of some kind is coming. However, given Walmart's track record with such items, it's likelyto be a metal pak and not an actual steelbook.
Now the question is which ones do I get! Really want the limited edition collector's release. I hope they don't put the 3D & regular Blu-ray on the same disc like we have seen in some releases lately. I can then sale the 3D to recoup the cost of the set.
I also want a Steelbook or Metal pack. Hopefully the Walmart release is indeed one or the other.
This movie was freaking awesome. This is day one for me with the 3D release. Before this movie Batman Begins was imo the best superhero movie but this one dethroned it. The Superman and Zod fight was so freaking epic i have never seen anything like it. It was like it was unreal
In my opinion, though, I thought that Brandon Routh was a better Superman in the previous film (as flawed as Superman Returns was), but Henry Cavill still did a really good job in Man of Steel. But Christopher Reeve will always be the one true Superman to me.
I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping for a director's cut with at least an extra 15-30 minutes of footage. The movie loses almost an hour of character-building with all the stuff on Krypton and the final battle sequence, alone. So it would've been nice to see a little more of Clark living as a kid or adult and how he dealt with things in society.
Oh, well. Unless there's just some super-cool limited edition packaging, I might wait for the eventual bigger cut.
Been waiting for the announcement of the S Glyp, or some kind of special edition, even with some great deals on the regular edition I knew I would be going for that. There were plenty of the Dark Knight rises ones around here last year so I figure I'll be able to snag one of these. If not I'll grab an inevitable (Region A) steelbook version.
Man screw all the fricking fanboys that say this film is no good because of too much action and people being thrown around. It's a frickingg superhero movie for Christ sake!!!! Screw the damn haters!! The movie was AWESOME!!!
I only saw it once in the theater and this is one of those movies that begs for a rewatch, so I"ll probably be picking this up. The final box artworks look great, not sure whether I want to go with the 2D or 3D version. :lol
bawlingbilly - People didn't hate it because there was too much action, they hated it because the screenplay was poor and the direction was all over the place, time to retire the word "hater" as well unless you're 14 years old, the word is well past its expiry date.
Doesnt concern me but id just like to throw in there that as a 23 year old male, i still hear 'hater' at work, home, public, movies, television, music.. all the time, 'hater' is far from 'well past its expiry date' unless of course my entire state is living under a rock.. just throwing that out there.
Anyway, i actually enjoy the 3D Cover & actually prefer it over the regular.. but ill be getting the collectors edition for this fantastic film, yes the screenplay could have been a hell of a lot better, but this was a summer blockbuster to every extent & i cant wait for the next one
I saw Pacific Rim and I liked Man of Steel better, but still thought PR rocked! However for me Maniac and Evil Dead are the two films competing for best of the year to me. Bring on the hate. It's my opinion. I'm sure this comment will be disliked into oblivion - like any comment with a opinion on this site.
