As part of its 600+ title distribution deal with Paramount, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is bringing Terms of Endearment to Blu-ray. Writer/director James L. Brooks' Academy Award-winning comedic drama (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay) stars Shirley MacLaine (winner, Best Actress), Debra Winger, Jack Nicholson (winner, Best Supporting Actor), Danny Devito, and John Lithgow, and arrives on Blu-ray on December 3rd.
Official Synopsis: Follow the lives and loves of a mother and daughter over the years, and the special bond they share. MacLaine is the feisty mom, Winger the independent daughter, and Nicholson the womanizing ex-astronaut who lives next door. From grand slapstick to deepest sentiment, director James L. Brooks masterfully paints scenes from the mother and daughter's evolving 30-year relationship.
Tech specs and special features have yet to be revealed.
@thompsonjohn: Paramount has already released Terms of Endearment in various foreign markets earlier this year, including Mexico just last week; it hits the UK September 2. It's hard to say if WB actually speeded up its release or not, though I do know Terms of Endearment and Ordinary People are the *only* two post-1970 Best Picture winners not yet out on U.S. BD. (It will be the 68th of 85 overall; Cavalcade earlier this month was the 64th, and From Here to Eternity, The Best Years of Our Lives and Oliver! are all set to drop before this one.)
@Arlington: It may not be the same master (I wouldn't be surprised if WB creates its own master), but since Paramount still owns the underlying film worldwide it's probably the same transfer worldwide.
I also prefer steel magnolias and fried green tomatoes (still waiting for that one), but I enjoy this one too! I really like the sequel too, its not as quality but I kinda wish they'd release it with this.
The best part of the movie is definitely when the mom is jumping up and down in the hospital yelling at the nurse. I watched my mom do that at a bank once after my father had passed away and they froze our families only bank account and boy DOES IT WORK!
