Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring to Blu-ray Oscar-nominated musical On the Riviera (1951), starring Danny Kaye, Gene Tierney, and Corinne Calvet. The release will be available for purchase online and in stores across the nation on October 8th.
You'll double over with laughter at Danny Kaye's Golden Globe- winning dual performances in this classic musical farce that was nominated for two Oscars Awards. Faced with a scheduling conflict, a womanizing French financier-aviator (Kaye) hires a nightclub performer (also Kaye) to temporarily impersonate him. But things go hilariously awry as one man tries to romance two beautiful women (Gene Tierney and Corinne Calvet) - who both think he's their lover.
I love how the press releases always say "in stores across the nation." Aside from some remaining Mom & Pop establishments, I challenge you to name a store that will carry this title or others like it. MAYBE Barnes & Noble, but they don't even carry everything they used to and they are incredibly overpriced. It sure ain't Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Target anymore. Sheesh. Best Buy last week didn't even get Return to Never Land...a Disney title! Now that shocked me. That was the final signal to me that big box retailers are completely abandoning home video media.
And just to add to the fray, reality is somewhere in between, probably closer to 4000dvds2many. Most stores do not carry more than a handful of new catalog releases. You really have to shop around and maybe once in a while you'll get lucky. (Else you're stuck playing online lottery.) [And no there's no Frys around here, else maybe I wouldn't have to add to the fray.]
