Cohen Media Group will add four titles to its Blu-ray catalog in November: The Vivien Leigh Anniversary Collection, D.W. Griffith's Intolerance, Alain Corneau's Tous les Matins du Monde, and Ziad Doueiri's The Attack.
Amin Jaafari is an Israeli Palestinian surgeon, fully assimilated into Tel Aviv society. He has a loving wife, an exemplary career, and many Jewish friends. But his picture-perfect life is turned upside down when a suicide bombing in a restaurant leaves nineteen dead, and the Israeli police inform him that his wife Sihem, who also died in the explosion, was responsible. Convinced of her innocence, Amin abandons the relative security of his adopted homeland and enters the Palestinian territories in pursuit of the truth. Once there, he finds himself in ever more dangerous places and situations. Determined, he presses on seeking answers to questions he never thought he would be asking. The Attack is adapted from Yasmina Khadra's international bestseller of the same name. Originally published in 2005, the novel has been translated into more than 40 languages and has won numerous awards worldwide.
This true masterpiece of cinema, beautifully restored, was made in the silent days of Hollywood, but the lack of audible dialogue does not hold this back from being appreciated today. This multi-part story shows Intolerance in four different times in World History, using lavish costumes, monumental props, and cast of literally tens of thousands. This landmark film is one of Hollywood's greatest achievements and could never be made again due to the astronomical cost of production. Most film critics put Intolerance in the top 10 listing of the Greatest Movies ever made. Watch Intolerance for yourself and find out why.
One of the most celebrated motion pictures to explore the art of music, Tous les Matins du Monde presents renowned actor Gérard Depardieu (Cyrano de Bergerac, Jean de Florette) and an all star international cast in a provocative tale of romance, lust, desire and devotion. Based on the lives of 17th century French composer Sainte Colombe and his protégé Maarin Marais, this cinematic masterpiece also features a best selling classical soundtrack performed and conducted by Jordi Savall.
Cohen Media Group celebrates the films of Hollywood legend Vivien Leigh with this superlative collection of classics including: Dark Journey, Fire Over England, Sidewalks of London and Storm In a Tea Cup.
In the relatively short time I've known about it, Cohen Media Group has become one of my favorite labels. This is both for the terrific foreign-language and indie films they release theatrically (Blancanieves, In the House) and for their top-notch Blu-rays of those films and old classics (Tristana, The Thief of Bagdad (1924)). This slate only improves upon my positive impressions of the company.
I'm definitely going to add both The Attack and Intolerance to my collection but the other two packages look interesting too.
