Cat People: Collector's Edition Blu-ray

Posted September 6, 2013 04:37 PM by Webmaster

Shout FactoryScream Factory, the horror-thriller offshoot of independent film distributor Shout Factory, is planning to bring to Blu-ray director Paul Schrader's Cat People (1982), starring Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, Annette O'Toole, and Scott Paulin. The release is expected to arrive on the market in January 2014.

Nastassia Kinski (Tess, Paris, Texas) stars as Irena, a beautiful young woman on the bridge of sexuality; she discovers love for the first time only to find that the explosive experience brings with it tragic consequences. The tremendous passion of this girl's first romantic love is so strong, however, it bypasses the chaos around her- including her brother's (Malcolm McDowell, A Clockwork Orange, Caligula) extraordinary demands- as it pushes her on to her own bizarre destiny. With a style as timeless as myth, Cat People is an erotic fantasy of the passion and terror that surround this girl's first love. Desire... passion... blood, her lust transforms her into one of the Cat People.

Summer of `82 gave us back to back remakes that became instant cult classics. The Thing and Cat People.

"Paul Schrader's Cat People (1982), starring Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, John Heard, and Scott Paulin."

John Heard is in this movie TWICE as much as any of the other stars.... ;-)

I have the HD-DVD version and it's the thickest dnr Universal ever put out so unless it's a new master no sale from me. An Animal House fiasco will only hurt Shout.

I guess Annette O'Toole is being replaced with a digital John Heard. . Kind of changes the swimming pool scene.

Day one buy for me. I'm ordering it right now. Took them long enough. One of the best films of 1982, the 1980's, and one of the best modern horror films ever made.

Wow, didn't see this one coming. Just thinking about this romantic horror film makes me yearn for the days of yesteryear. What do we have to show for it these days, Twilight?! Damn this thought is depressing. This film has it all: Kinski's smoking hot, the shocks are scary and the soundtrack is amazing, not to mention Bowie's song is a gem. However I'm going to wait and see if Arrow announces this. After their release of Lifeforce had more extras then Shout's release, I'm not going to take any chances.

Oh Hell Yes!!!

I saw this at least three times at the theatre during its original release...

Great mood and atmosphere... and of course Moroder's excellent score... Kinski nude was a definite turn on!

@bushell44, it will more than likely be Region A locked. I think every Scream Factory title has been Region A due to their licensing deals.

Fucking love this movie! But that is one of the worst covers I have ever seen. Should have gone with the original movie poster.

It's worth it for no other reason than to see Annette O'Toole's sweater puppies.
