Scream Factory, the horror-thriller offshoot of independent film distributor Shout Factory, has announced that it plans to bring to Blu-ray Ewald André Dupont's The Neanderthal Man (1953) and Edward Nassour and Ismael Rodríguez's The Beast of Hollow Mountain (1956). The two films will appear in a double-feature Blu-ray, which is expected to arrive on the market in early 2014.
The Neanderthal Man
A mad scientist transforms himself into a prehistoric caveman, his cat into a saber-toothed tiger, and his housekeeper into an ape person, which does not enhance his popularity. Starring Robert Shayne, Joyce Terry, and Richard Crane.
The Beast of Hollow Mountain
Handsome Guy Madison portrays a cowboy portrays an American cowboy living in Mexico trying to find out what has been happening to his cattle. Little does he suspect that the local legend about the beast of hollow mountain is true. A Tyrannosaurus Rex has been munching on the herd. This rare stop-motion epic combines the genres of Western and Giant Monster. Based on a story by Willis O'Brien of King Kong fame. Starring Guy Madison, Patricia Medina, and Carlos Rivas.
THE BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN was created by WILLIS O'BRIAN, the stop-motion animation pioneer responsible for the original LOST WORLD (1925), KING KONG (1933), MIGHTY JOE YOUNG (1949) for which he won an academy award for visual effects, he was also mentor to future stop-motion wizard RAY HARRYHAUSEN.
O'Brian made the BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN (1956) when he was pushing 70 years old. He died in 1962.
This is not his best work, but if its a decent Blu-Ray, i'll buy it just to reminisce the fond childhood memory of watching the T-Rex walk upright and carry-off a cow in it's mouth.
Yay, "bad" movie time! I'm looking forward to other "great" 50s monster "hits" like: "The Vampire" (MGM/UA), "Monster on the Campus" (Universal) , "The Hideous Sun Demon", and "Seddok, l'Erede di Satana" (a.k.a. "Atom Age Vampire"). How 'bout digging up "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" while they're at it?
Not familiar w/Neanderthal but I have seen 'Beast of Hollow Mountain' multiple times. Shot in widescreen the movie is troubled by a slow paced script and poor special effects. Not sure who actually designed the T-Rex but O'Brien sure could have used Marcel Delgado's assistance in creating him! The creatures are not convincing to say the least, but give credit to Shout for at least being as diverse as possible with title selections.
Need to see 'The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms ' and 'The Valley of Gwangi' on blu!!!!
