British filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Kill List) will direct the first two episodes of the BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who. Shooting will begin in December, and the two episodes are expected to be broadcast in Autumn 2014.
Following the announcement Wheatley told ScreenDaily: "I am very excited and honored to be asked to direct the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who. I've been a fan since childhood (Tom Baker is my Doctor if you are asking). I've been watching the current run of Doctor Who with my son and have discovered it all over again. The work that has been done is amazing. I'm really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor."
@yoda-sama: Funny. I took exactly the same thing from the announcement. Basically it means more than a year without any Doctor in our lives aside from a special here and there. If it was any series other than Doctor Who that would be the kiss of death. Bummer!
