BBC Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the documentary 'Earth: The Biography' to Blu-ray on July 22nd, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1.85:1 1080p, with the five episodes (equaling 230 minutes of material) spread across two BD-25 discs. Audio will be presented in its original 2.0 stereo form.
The five episodes of the series includes "Volcano", "Atmosphere", "Ice", "Oceans", and "Rare Earth". No extras have been announced at this time.
'Planet Earth', another BBC release documenting our planet, is still one of the best selling Blu-ray titles of all time. The success can be attributed to the extreme clear video quality and in-depth perspective given to viewers. They hope similar releases, like 'Earth: The Biography', will be just as popular.
Watched this series recently on the BBC and it was excellent! Each episode was amazing, revealing quite unbelievable facts about our planet. The Oceans was my personal favourite....should be fantastic on Blu-ray!
As I recall, when this was broadcast in the UK (on BBC HD) it was titled "Earth: Power of the Planet". This is one I will be purchasing.
When broadcast on BBC HD, I think it was stereo only, so that's probably how it was originally mixed. I suppose the BBC had limited facilities and these went to shows like "Cranford". Now the BBC broadcasts "Gardeners World" in 5.1, I for see future HD series all being in 5.1.
