Paramount Home Entertainment have finally unveiled their long-awaited first wave of catalog and recent hit titles that they'll begin releasing May 20th. "We will have a strong slate of titles for Blu-ray release throughout the year, worldwide, and are enthusiastic about expanding the format's offerings for a broad consumer audience while delivering an experience that goes beyond what viewers love about DVD," said Paramount Home Entertainment President Kelley Avery.
Included among this first wave of titles is the Academy Award-winning 'There Will Be Blood,' as well as 'Cloverfield', J.J. Abrams' unusual take on the "creature feature." The first Blu-ray title to be released day-and-date with the DVD release by Paramount will be 'The Spiderwick Chronicles', which will be released June 24th. Below you can find the complete list of Paramount and DreamWorks titles announced for Blu-ray so far:
We will of course keep you posted about any further developments relating to Paramount's and DreamWorks' upcoming Blu-ray release plans, so stay tuned.
Sweet. Im looking forward to spiderwick chronicles. This might be a blind buy for me. heard alot good things about that movie. Surprised on the lack of Transformers. This title should be there intro back into BD.
Ha Ha. Quick release time. I just checked out Cloverfield from NetFlix but now I'll return it and wait for Blu-ray. Never saw it before. I can wait another month to watch it
Cloverfield on Blu-Ray, huh? Wow, kinda silly since most of the film was made to "look" like low quality video footage. Pretty weak entry into Blu-Ray for Paramount. And the movie was terrible anyway.
Finally sleeping beauty has awoken from her sleep and not a moment to soon. I hope Paramount will have their Blu-Rays upto top notch quality on audio & video. AVC & Lossless Audio FTW!
ohh WELL, if it ISN'T Para-cunt... what the hell're you doin' on this side of the fence without a Transformers announcement equipped to fend of all angry consumers you created? I'm afraid your efforts are just not good enough... try again @55h--es!
Mr. Bay is going to make the Bluray version of Transformers the best he can like he did for the HDDVD version, which will take some time. I rater they take time to do a good job, then have a quick thrown together release or worse a port.
I'll most likely pick up Cloverfield, and I'm patiently waiting for TWBB (I didn't pick it up on DVD cuz I knew it would come out soon...same with Sweeney Todd, but it looks like I'll have to wait a little longer for that one).
Very very happy, Paramount will actually release before Universal but announced later so that is
interesting. Like others have said, where is Transformers???
glad to see we are getting some titles in 3 weeks. I'll get all these except maybe bee movie, not sure how i feel about that one. Great news looking forward to see what else they are bringing to blu this year
About time that they release BR again sheesh. Nothing exciting in this first batch but at least it's nice to know that they are back now with new products. Ironically, my area always had the older titles available. Some stores stocked up on them but never really managed to sell much of them (why would you carry 50 copies of Aeon Flux?). Let's hope a few franchise titles come sooner than later...
I think they know that Transformers will be such a huge title that they are trying to crank 'em out as fast as they can so they have plenty of stock.... At least that's what I hope! Maybe Michael Bay is supervising the Blu-ray optimized disc!
Today, I rented "There Will Be Blood" at Blockbuster but I'd like to know if the movie is any good. I'd also like to know if there's any blood and gore regardless of the name of the movie.
I still remember the last time I saw this logo on the Front Page, not a very good day! Just bring out quality transfers and looseless audio and we will forgive you in time!
Yes, There Will Be Blood is being released on my birthday. I would have really liked Sweeney Todd or Beowulf, but I will have to look into this, I've heard good things about it.
Paramount while you are at it fix the audio on The Italian Job... The box says English 5.1 DTS but the
option is not on the blu-ray disc. Well some lossless or Dolby TrueHD should make it up to us loyal
blu-ray customers....
Paramount has a lot of catching up to do. I just hope they don't rerelease a HD-DVD quality on Bly-ray, but use better quality uncompressed audio for the Blu-ray version.
Sweet Cloverfield & Bee Movie for sure!! I would only take TWBB if it was free & then I'd only be taking it to sell for a profit(but I'd feel bad for selling such a bad over hyped, boring, long, pointless movie, but DDL acting was good, too bad he wasted it on that crap)...Oh yeah & like everyone else where's Transformers!!
Cloverfield and There Will Be Blood will so be mine on June 3.
One of my first blu-rays is Paramounts' The Untouchables and it is a stellar product. It is a 30ish year old movie that looks better than many new movie blu-rays.
Finally! I cannot wait for Cloverfield and There Will Be Blood. Paramount sure did beat Universal to the punch in reference to the earliest release date, which is a good enough act for me. Well, that and lossless audio. Does anyone know how Paramount will present their audio? Since I last checked, even their HD-DVDs have been given the shaft on lossless audio, and I hope this does not transfer over to Blu.
WHERE IS SWEENEY TODD!?!?!?!?!?! Although I will say this...the discs are coming a lot sooner than I expected. May and June? The May discs are less than a month away!
Wow. Totally....underwhelming. I'm sure there will be further releases, but seriously, anyone else disappointed at their first official Blu-Ray release announcement? Bee Movie? Face/Off? Next? There weren't any other movies in the catalog that could be released in the first batch?
about time... but that is NOT a "strong slate of titles" where the hell is TRANSFORMERS!!! all this time and no TRANSFORMERS!!! or heck, even Sweeny Todd!
All I'll say is I expect these titles to be top notch quality now that HD DVD is dead and no longer a concern for Paramount. Especially Cloverfield, no excuse for them to crap out on quality it's only 85 minutes long, and a new release. My 6 month boycott of Paramount begins May 20th.
I concur with Will_ares, why are you folks so desperate for Transformers?
I thought it was pretty average, and how come no one has mention the Star Trek franchise yet?
guys.... I am in luck. Spiderwick chronicles?? this is a joke right? that is the title I am planning to buy on DVD. Now, with BD in existance, bye2 DVD.
Big question, i live in the uk and most of the titles come late here and i dont want to wait any longer. Are Paramount Blu-Ray titles region free???????????
Thanks to anybodye who can answer this.
Cloverfield will have the same exact features as the DVD, and there won't be no special 2-disc Blu-ray edition as promised. That sucks. I own the 2-disc special edition of Transformers on HD-DVD already so I'm happy about that.
I could care less about transformers on Bluray now. Paramount blew it, and should have released it on Bluray when i had interest in it. Here's one TF sale they won't be getting from me.
Awesome! I have been holding out on picking up Cloverfield until its Blu release. Now if they could just reward me for my patience with Transformers..........
I wish they would just release transformers so we can all stop hearing about it. I'm not sure why everyone thinks that movie is so great. There are plenty of Paramount catalogue titles that I want more.
I was hoping for more of their "previously released on blu-ray" lot, like Trading Places & Coming to America, movies they already put on Blu. Plus Blades of Glory (which they yanked right before release day) would be nice.
Plus, everyone hoping Paramount would "make amends" for their financial manouvering decisison now knows that none of these big studios care about offending or appeasing the current niche-marked Blu-ray fans.
Titles that will be available on the 20th of May :
Aeon Flux, Babel, Big Snake Moan, Coming to America, Disturbia, Dreamgirls, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Sleepy Hollow, The Untouchables, The Warriors, Trading Places, We Were Soldiers and World Trade Center and Blades of Glory
If anyone is interested in specs for the titles that "demiscy" referred to, check out http://www.dvdactive.com Not all of them are there, but several are.
Face off is already available though? well in Europe it is, by buena vista/disney lol. but yeah transformers if it comes out in summer is a must buy otherwise i bet theyll wait till december .. one year after it was meant to be out of blu. pfft
