Paramount Home Entertainment today revealed further details about their upcoming Blu-ray plans and in addition to releasing 'Bee Movie', 'Face/Off' and 'Next' on May 20th, they will also be releasing 'Blades of Glory', a quirky comedy about the competetive world of ice skating starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder.
While specs and other details about the recently announced titles still are quite scarce, we have been able to confirm that 'Bee Movie', 'Cloverfield', 'There Will Be Blood' and 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' will feature 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. We were also able to get a hold of the cover art for the upcoming Bee Movie release on Blu-ray:
In addition, Paramount will be re-introducing some of their previously discontinued Blu-ray titles on the format again. The following is the complete line-up of titles set to be introduced by Paramount in the coming months:
sadly its the end of Blu Ray for me folks, i'm going back to standard DVD for now, I hope to return in the future, its great site for reading all your comments and the upcoming news, I just feel the real good movies are not coming out quick enough, evey day I read about lots of crap films been planned for release, no Star Wars, Indy, Martix, aliens, lord of the Rings etc....
Also since the format war ended the priceses have edged upwards here in Ireland, I remember reading one of your comments when someone predicted this there was an angry response from most member saying this will never happen...an here its happening, its just too expensive for me right now on my salary, hopefully in the near future I will return as the picture quality in bluray is unmatched in every way.
gud luck to all u out there, u have provided some very interesting readings.....
Just curious...Are these earliar titles the same format as the originals that we're released prior...such as Coming To America & Trading Places or updated with better quality?
Blu-Man
You're crazy...Star Wars, LOTR, Indy, etc. These were not released early on the DVD format either. Give it time. They cannot put out all their big guns so early...we'll see some great stuff come this holiday......
And to think, just a few months ago people were dropping 30 to 50 bucks on Blades of Glory on ebay, just so they said they could "Own It." P.O.S. movie anyways. As Beta Man says, just wait long enough and you'll have everything eventually. Everyone is so impatient.
Bring on Transformers... and Megan Fox!
i see some babies are still crying about Megatron not being a gun
or no Arc for the Autobots... waaaaa!!!
where are the Quintessons waaaa!
why are they using Beast Wars -type protoforms.... waaaaashaaadddup
stop your crying.
"i'm a bluray guru look at me"
what are you going to say next? Batman Begins sucks too??
I imagine that Shooter and Transformers are getting an overhaul. Those are the two biggies at this point for Paramount, and they are probably making them above reference quality. As a gesture of goodwill.
Please keep in mind that this list isn't necessarily final, this is just the Blu-ray titles that are currently listed in the Paramount press site. I think it's likely that Paramount will introduce as many of the previously released titles as possible.
I'm interested in Babel, Coming to America, There Will Be Blood, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, The Untouchables, and Cloverfield.
Yes Transformers would have been nice but I think there starting lineup far outshines Universal's sad plans. I think they're saving Transformers and making absolutely sure it doesn't dissappoint Bluray fans. Plus if they release later this year (can anyone say HOLIDAY Season) then they're guaranteed to sell a ridiculous of copies of the movie.
Transformers will probably the best selling Bluray title when its released. So everyone calm down...
Too many movie in the selection is aleady before, are they doing a remaster, but I those film aleady in excellent PQ, but they really need to bring transformer, hopefully they did better job of transfer.
Where are the Mission: Impossible films? Are they still out of print? Does this mean that Paramount may be remastering them (adding better sound?) before re-releasing them?
Nice update. It's also good to see that they'll be making TrueHD a standard feature from now on. Hopefully all studios will make lossy audio a thing of the past.
So how badly are they out of stock for "Shooter"? daaaaang! This movie is starting to piss me off!!! Its gonna take an act of congress before we can ll buy it at a regular $19.99 price!
But...on the bright side, we are getting Blades of Glory, which was ripped away from our hands literary a few days before its release. Plus all the other discontinued titles and new releases, so I am overall happy
Glad to see the lossless audio!!
I will patiently await their future releases since I know they will now get on their big titles like Shooter
and Transformers.
Everyone needs to be patient with Transformers. Perhaps Michael Bay has his hands on this release
and is planning something special for the Blu-ray version? After all, he was the strongest advocate of
Blu-ray. He just may be planning a reward for all of us!
already have disturbia and shooter? altho shooter wasnt re mentioned.. hopefully theyll be the same as the origional prints, unless they add features two them.
Good point about Mission Impossible, I was hoping for the Mission Impossible set and the Jack Ryan collection. But this will certainly work for now. I expect all these big sets around the holidays. Start saving now!
Ah, it's that Face/Off Mr Two/Face Paramount thing. However, it's best the past be water under the bridge. A divided house will not overcome the DVD nemasus. Welcome back Paramount.
Para-cunt sure knows how to pull on Michael Bay's and Transformers fans' strings... which includes me by the way. I hate Paramount so much! When or if Transformers sees a release, I would buy it and that's it! I will not be buying anything of theirs unless it's a Transformers sequel. Other than that they've lost one supporter.
i wnna see what theyre releasing in the UK, seeing we already have titles from warner for example thats distributed by paramount in the US, surely we would have some different titles?
On Tuesday, Paramount announced a strategy similar to Universal’s about Blu-ray releases for the year. It consists mainly of putting out new titles “day and date” (meaning they come out the same time as) with their DVD versions, and then getting caught up on catalog titles a little more slowly. They’ll kick off their re-entry to Blu-ray a few weeks from now on May 20 with Bee Movie, Face/Off and Next.
This means that Michael Bay and the many legions of his fans, as well as a few dozen Blu-ray owners, will apparently have to wait a little longer to see Transformers on Paramount’s Blu-ray release slate. Likewise, many Trekkies will have to wait and see when the first and second seasons of the original series discs come out in high-def.
It looks like some of the Blu-ray titles that had been taken off shelves when Paramount went HD DVD-exclusive last year will be returning to shelves on May 20, including Blades of Glory, Babel, Aeon Flux, The Warriors, and Black Snake Moan.
This is the wrong mindset and Paramount will loose a lot of money this way.
Beta man, if someone saying that Lord of the Rings is one of the good titles makes them lose credibility with you, you must be very lonely being one of the few with any real credibility. Those are great movies, and most people would agree. The Matrix I agree sucks, but you say Transformers sucks as well? Sorry but I think you are on your own with that one.
