Sony Plans Horror Blu-rays for July

Posted May 12, 2008 02:11 PM by Josh Dreuth

Sony Pictures Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring four horror catalog films to Blu-ray on July 22nd. Already available in Europe, Sony will bring 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' to this side of the pond. Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p and accompanied by a 5.1 lossless English soundtrack. Extras include the three featurettes "Genesis of the Story", "Casting the Film", and "Visual Design".

Also coming that day will be 'Urban Legend'. Video will be presented as 2.40:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 English TrueHD soundtrack. No special features have been announced at this time, but many are expected to be ported from the DVD release.

Additionally, Sony will bring the two "I Know What You Did" films to Blu-ray on the same day. Both 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer' will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p AVC video accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. The only extra announced for the first film is audio commentary with the director, while the second film in the series gets a making-of featurette and the Jennifer Love-Hewitt music video for "How Do I Deal". More extras are expected for both releases, with more information coming as the release date approaches.

Emily Rose wasn't bad, but those others are just plain bad movies in any format.

Man, Emily Rose freaks me out!!!

When she's all JACKED up on the floor....daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.

I'd maybe buy it, because it's a great movie, but I'd have to keep it in a steel box or something.

The Excorcism of Emily Rose was one my scariest movie to watch, seeing it on Blu-ray would be great but not sure if I want to see it again since it got me scared and thinking about the movie when I was done. This movie was based on true events and this movie reminded me of The Excorcist.

Excellent news! I thought I'd have to wait much longer for those to appear on blu-ray. Anyway, looking forward to replacing the DVDs with blu-rays.

all junk.... Watched the Orphanage recently.... buy that one!!!!! [/quote]

I second that!! The Orphanage was a fresh welcome in a jungle of bad horror movies (in recent years).

yeah who cares. i wont buy it on blu to replace my dvd just for the sake of having it. If they would have picked The Grudge 1&2, I'd get them for sure. Lossless surround sound would be bliss for The Grudge flicks.

I'll get The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Hopefully it'll be the unrated version of the film. I'm not too sure about the other three films announced.

I'd like to see Dreamworks release The Ring on Blu sometime soon, also Freddy & Jason sets would be sweet!

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" will be a definate buy, and I'll have to buy "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" to complete the set. Fantastic news, though I still find it odd that they're releasing these in July (although the "Summer" films make more sense than the other two).

Pass on the other two...
