Fast & Furious 7 Gets New Release Date

Posted December 23, 2013 04:18 AM by Webmaster

Universal 100thUniversal Studios will release director James Wan's Fast & Furious 7 in theaters across the United States on April 10, 2015. Actor Vin Diesel revealed the new release date Sunday night on Facebook. The film stars Diesel, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and the late Paul Walker.

Diesel also published a new photo of himself and Walker and wrote: "The last scene we filmed together…There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we've come…Fast and Furious 7 will be released…April 10th 2015! P.s. He'd want you to know first…"

Fast & Furious 7 was initially set to have its premiere on July 11, 2014, but Universal put its production on hold after Walker's tragic death.

I guess that answers the question of if they were going to recast the role of Brian or rewrite and re-edit what was already shot. Good to see this. Paul was a sad loss.

Slim Jim, what are you talking about? There will be trailers, posters, tv ads etc... The reason it takes this long I bet is they have to refilm a lot to alter the story. All these actors have other movies or TV shows to film, so they complete those first, then come back and film.

Still can't believe Paul is gone. I recently watched hours his new film and he was great in that. I wonder if they are still going to keep the footage that they already shot with Paul? At least fast and furious 7 will kick off the summer movie season for 2015. Can't wait to see the movie!

Man, I thought 2015 was already gonna be a kick ass year. At least now I can count on one being a success for me personally as a fan of the franchise that summer.

@Slim Jim: What an absolute dick. Clearly has no idea how movies are made.

Slim Jim apparently doesn't realize that when an actor dies and the movie hasn't been completed, it kind of forces you to alter the story.....DUH!

If the tragedy never happened, would there have been an 8? If so, will there still be?
Pardon if this is common knowledge. I'm ignorant on most things F&F, but they are fun films

@eiknarf

In the special features for part 6, Vin Diesel says to one of the cast members after wrapping the final scene, "Well we've got 7 and 8 on the books" which I think is a pretty clear indication that there was the intention to have at least 2 more movies. In light of recent events I wouldn't be surprised if that is re-evaluated.

@ CritterDVD,
Thanks. So will Paul Walker's scene remain in "7", or are they re-editing the entire "7" with him out?

I think they should kill him off in the movie. To be honest, I'm sure he'd want his character to die in a car crash (as morbid and F'd up as that sounds). Live by the sword die by the sword.

from what i read they are going to use his younger brother for the remaining scenes. they will cgi the closer shots. his brother is 25 and is a stuntman. i doubt they will scrap all the scenes shot with paul , that makes no sense and would be an awful tribute/

@Gardenofstone10: EXACTLY what I was thinking! This way, the franchise can continue with some level of reality.

Criiter you are correct, 7 was supposed to introduce Kurt Russells character who was rummored to have a close connection to BrianO'Connor and was to lead into 8 with KR being the main Baddie.

now though that needs to all be reworked, I am just glad they are keeping the stuff that Walker filmed before Thanksgiving.
most of what is remaing involves the driving stunts and there is a rumor that they are in talks with Paul's brother (who's a former Hollywood stunt driver and looks very very close to Paul in appearance) to fill in for him, and he is reportedly down with that knowing how much his brother loved the series.
but i guess we will see.

If the Cody Walker speculation is true about him filling in for his brother in the remaining scenes.
I wouldn't mind seeing him stay on(if he wanted) with the role full flegged for 8.

They could potentially salvage the idea of the K Russell characters connection to Brian O'Connor if that is the case as well.

Otherwise I wouldnt mind seeing the series place the Rock in the secondary position to Vin going forward.

from what i read in entertainment weekly when fast 6 came out in the theaters was vin diesel said there was gonna be a fast & furious 7, 8 & 9 but i don't know if that has now been scrapped or not. he had said that they had wanted to do 3 trilogies and fast 7 would be the start of the next trilogy.

I'm glad that they are going to release #7. I just hope I'll still be around to see it. Before his death & even before watching #6 I was already looking forward to knowing I would be seeing #7 in late 2014. Now it won't be released for home viewing for almost 2 years from now. Some may be wondering why I may not get to see it. The reason is that I believe I'm nearing the end of my time here on planet earth. But if I don't get to watch it from here I'll be watching it with Paul Walker. Live every day as if it's your last & let people know that you love them.
