Jack Ryan Gets Split for Blu-ray

Posted May 28, 2008 06:04 PM by Josh Dreuth

ParamountParamount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Patriot Games' and 'Sum of All Fears' to Blu-ray on July 29th. Originally planned to be released as part of the four-movie 'Jack Ryan Collection', these two titles will be released separately. No technical specs have been announced for either title at this time.

'Patriot Games' will include the featurette "Patriot Games Up Close" and the theatrical trailer. No special features have been announced for 'Sum of All Fears' at this time.

That's great, but I'd prefer The Hunt For Red October first. With 7.1 audio.

Is there eventually going to be a box set, or are they just releasing the individually?

Definitely interested in Sum of All Fears even though that's probably the least favorite for most people.

Patriot Games is a day one purchase for me!!! I'll pass on Sum Of All Fears. Definitely bring on the other two though, those would be day one also!

I'll definitely get Patriot Games!! As far as The Sum of All Fears goes, I don't like Ben Affleck, but I'll get it for Morgan Freeman only. But I still want The Hunt for Red October most of all!!

@M_Tyson

It may be that Red October is top priority, and that's why they're taking longer on it than these two. I like Patriot Games and Sum Of All Fears just fine, but these are probably the bottom two, with Red October and Clear and Present Danger as the top two. Hope they have all the features that wouldn't fit on the HDDVD. Probably see Red October and CPD in the fall. Ye haw!

I hope it's a new transfer for Patriot Games. The DVD was pretty weak (a little too much film grain). HfRO would be sweet in 7.1 for sure. Submarines and Surround Sound! It's why God invented surround sound!

Actually Clayton, if we want to be "technical", Hunt for Red October was released in March 1990, not the "80's" as you mentioned. I am sure the sound will be incredible, it is obvious that Paramount is taking their time with it. Personally I thought Hunt for Red October and Clear and Present Danger were the better ones....Patriot Games was not bad. I didn't waste my time with Sum of all Fears. Harrison Ford was Jack Ryan, period.

I agree, give us Red October.
These other 2 were very forgettable films.

Not high on my double-dip list (watched the DVD box set towards the end of last year). DVDs were pretty decent. [Any leave all that film grain alone, fer cryin out loud, it belongs there.]
