If you do purchase a player online, as I expect many of our readers to do, that gift card can only be used for online purchases. I expect that many of our readers will in turn use that gift card to pick up some of those $15 titles. With the opportunity to purchase a Blu-ray player and six Blu-ray titles for $300, supplies are expected to run out early.
I also expect that some of you may have forgotten that this weekend is Father's Days (at least for the yanks!) and will jump on this deal as an excellent opportunity to show your father just how much you love him.
Thanks goes out to PossumPete for submitting the news.
thats awsome for Walmart customers. what a better time to get a PS3 AND be introduced to
good Blu's like 3:10 to Yuma, Shooter, 300 and all the others they will have for sale!
Awsome this is how we can attract new customers and hitting DVD hard day after day. This deal cannot bypass especially with 15 titles free for new customer to begin with.
Just Gorgeous i wish and i will be very happy if i live In north America.
I commend Wal-mart for offering such a fantastic deal. A $298 Blu-ray player is just great, and when they add the $100 gift card it becomes almost irresistable to those people without a Blu-ray player.
I was waiting for this sale to get the Samsung BD-P1500 for $348 (plus $100 gift card), but I guess everyone else thought of that too. Maybe I didn't get up early enough. I went Sunday AM and my local store was out, and they called the nearest six stores and they were out too. They had plenty of Mags, Sony S300, and Pany 30's.
This is VERY exciting news, this is what Walmart did with DVD when it started to go mainstream. I was at my local Walmart a few days ago, we are in a smaller area north of Duluth and population for shopping at the store including all local towns is about 60,000 people. Before this visit they had one blu-ray player, the Sony 300 (and only a demo) and 4 rows of blu-rays. This time, they had an entire long row for blu-ray with huge signs, they had 15-20 rows of movies (going 5 movies down for each row) and players from Panasonic (BD30), Samsung (1500), Magnavox, PS3 and Sony, all beautifully set up with a PS3 display showing blu-ray movies as well at the end of the isle facing customers walking by and a blu-ray demo disc playing on a stereo system and nice monitor. Hats off to Walmart for this new push-it was a beautifully designed display and will get much attention. The 100.00 gift card is awesome too, blu-ray was on the first page of their weekly Sunday flyer as well showing this special with the players and the $15 movies. I was surprised however that they did not show the lower-priced Magnavox player at $298 in the ad.
I did ask the Walmart clerk and they are taking rainchecks, at least in this store, in case they are out of stock, so if you go to buy a player, and it is out of stock be sure to ask about a raincheck.
No the BDP-S300 does not even have 1.1....but the Panasonic is 1.1, the Magnavox is 1.1, and the Samsung is 1.1 now but will get a firmware update for 2.0. Not bad for $348 for the Samsung.
NICE! This exactly the kind of stuff that we need to happen for Blu-ray to really catch up. This will get all the Non-Videophile and Audiophile people who just want a basic Blu-ray player get started!
I helped my dad pick up a 1080p plasma at Circuit City today. I told him "well now you gotta have a Blu player too"! So We asked the Salesguy if they would honor the same deal that Walmart had and he said "absolutely on anything that plays blu".
My dad is now a proud owner of a new 40 gb PS3 player =D He used the 100 gift cert to pick up some blus and tiger woods pga 08. He went home a very happy man
