Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of co-writer Zack Snyder and director Noam Murro's 300: Rise of an Empire, the sequel to Snyder's 300. Based on the upcoming Frank Miller graphic novel "Xerxes," the film stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson and Rodrigo Santoro, and arrives via 2D and 3D Blu-ray/DVD/Digital HD combo packs on June 24th.
Synopsis: Rise of an Empire takes the action to a fresh battlefield -- the sea -- as Greek general Themistokles (Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. Themistokles must face the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Santoro) and Artemisia (Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.
Both the 2D and 3D Blu-ray releases of 300: Rise of an Empire are presented in 1080p with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround. Special features include:
The June 10th release date has been the rumored release date for a while, and someone added it to the site's listings. No one has updated it yet to reflect the actual release date now that it's official.
As you all probably know, this wasn't a true sequel. It actually took place concurrently with the original film. At least most of it did. If you know the history, and remember the scene in the first film, you'll know that this naval battle took place at about the same time as the initial battle of the 300.
