In an interview with Total Film, X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed actor Channing Tatum has been cast as fan-favorite mutant Remy LeBeau aka Gambit. Donner didn't reveal in which upcoming film Tatum's incarnation of the New Orleans thief-turned-X-man will first appear, but future X-films include X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Force and The Wolverine 2.
Previously, Gambit was played by Taylor Kitsch in the poorly received X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). No word yet as to whether Tatum's Gambit will be a continuation of that character or a clean-slate reboot.
Well that's too bad. I would have preferred some continuity. Now just watch Wolverine meet him for the second time even though it's the same franchise. Just because Origins sucked doesn't mean we can ignore the events.
I personally consider X-Men Origins: Wolverine to be non-canon. The lab at Alkali Lake looks completely different than it was in X2, Cyclops has heat vision instead of optic blasts, Sabertooth is suddenly Wolverine's step-brother, Professor X looks older than he should if it takes place 16 or 17 years after First Class, and of course there's "Baraka-pool."
Oh, I didn't know X-Force was announced. That's good news.
Loved the character from the cartoon. Would have liked Taylor better than Tatum, but don't really mind.
Maybe we can all forget about the origin movie, and actually have properly done Deadpool character.
No offense but I think it's Shuler Donner from holding these movies back from what they should be. I really wish they would just reboot the whole thing with new producers. These movies have no where been as fun or true as the old animated series. One they get everyone in they actual, costumes then it'll be bad a. Wolverine with out his yellow costume...lame.
I'm hoping he's in X-Force along with Reynolds as Deadpool again, then they can crank up the humor to Marvel Studios level and have some quality banter. Just get Cable in there as the straight character to play off these personalities. Also put X23 in there for the Wolverine connection.
Channing Tatum......Ha Ha Ha Ha !!!!!!!!!!!!! The X-men movies have all been horrible after the first two. Fox needs to quit making these movies ! Sell them back to Marvel . That also includes Daredevil and the Fantastic Four. Let them be done right ! I use to like the X-men, but with each half-ass crappy movie I hate them more and more !
@BobbyPeru - FOX no longer holds the rights to Daredevil, they reverted back to Marvel last year and they currently are developing it as a series to debut on Netflix along with three other series that will all be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The other three series they are building through Netflix are "Jessica Jones", "Iron Fist", and "Luke Cage." Each series (including "Daredevil") will be 13-episodes each and will all lead up to a mini-event series on Netflix, "The Defenders." It will launch in 2015 starting with "Daredevil." Stay tuned!!! :-D
Tatum does have family from New Orleans so it's within reason he can pull of a Cajun accent.
As long as he isn't wearing a stupid bowler hat he's got my vote over Kitsch. Still of the actors today I feel Alexander Skarsgard or Josh Holloway would be best suited.
Kitsch did a great job as Gambit in Origins. Reynolds would have made a great Deadpool if they had written Deadpool properly. He's the Merc with a Mouth not the Mute Merc. Anyway, Tatum couldn't act his way out of a high school play so this characterization is doomed all the way. It's unfortunate about Origins as it could have been a great movie. Why they found it necessary to go so far off canon is beyond me. Hopefully, they don't completely frack up Days of Future Past, one of my favorite story lines.
