Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Blu-ray

Posted May 13, 2014 11:55 PM by Webmaster

Warner 90th AnniversaryWarner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of director Brad Silberling's Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004), starring Jim Carrey, Jude Law, Liam Aiken, Emily Browning, Meryl Streep, Cedric the Entertainer, Billy Connolly, Catherine O'Hara, Timothy Spall and Luis Guzman. The fantasy comedy is based on the first three books of Daniel Handler's Lemony Snicket-penned children's novel series, and makes its Blu-ray debut on September 9th.

Official Synopsis: "Dear Viewer, If you enjoy movies filled with singing rabbits, exploding spaceships, or cheerleaders, you are holding the wrong disc entirely. This movie is extremely alarming, an expression which here means a thrilling misadventure involving three ingenious orphans and a villainous actor named Count Olaf who wants their enormous fortune. It includes a suspicious fire, delicious pasta, Jim Carrey, poorly behaved leeches, an incredibly deadly viper, Meryl Streep, and the voice of an impostor named Jude Law. The only things that could make such a spectacle more upsetting are special features, such as commentary by me or outtakes involving nervous laughter. I am bound to continue my research into the lives of the Baudelaire orphans, but you are free to seek lighter fare, like blue cheese fondue. With all due respect, Lemony Snicket."

Warner has yet to detail tech specs or special features.

Awesome movie. But I trust Paramount with BluRay's over Warner. Might have to import this.

It really did take long enough for this, odd since its such a visually interesting movie, now just waiting for Kingpin, Marie Antoinette and Ghost World, 3 more strangely not released titles.

If only they'd announced this a week earlier, but I already have my import copy on the way.

Glad this is finally coming out. It was promised in the first Blu-ray format previews, along with TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE (which is out in other territories). Can't believe it's been 10 years since the movie came out!

I will stick with the import copy I have as I doubt there could be much improvement over that one.

If it has special features, especially in HD, I am, otherwise I will stick with my import BD, after waiting 5 years or so for it to be released here.

At long last!! I've been holding off for years and resisted to not buy it on DVD. Such a fantastic film. My favorite of Carrey's and a great fantasy movie.

Finally! And only 7 or so years after the film was used to sell us on the format in a way that implied it was already available or at the very least was coming soon! And it still took another studio to finally make it happen? Wow, that's as crazy as studios releasing all but one season of a show on BD, discouraging most fans from buying for lack of a complete set on their preferred format (hint, hint, Fox).

Maybe we'll finally see that Dido concert on BD now too. It was used to help sell us on BD in much the same way early on, but never happened.

"Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events may be available on Blu-ray but it is sold by Price Clock for $49.99." That was a post I put on IMDB. It might have been a region free import but it is now available on Blu-ray for $10.48! It took 10 years after the original movie came out to be available on Amazon, where I bought it. The estimated delivery date is September 9, 2014.

wasn't expecting this, but I'm glad it's finally coming out and I can get rid of yet another DVD... now if only Paramount and WB would release Blu-rays of the rest of the movies of theirs I have on DVD
