The Man With No Name Trilogy Blu-ray

Posted May 15, 2014 05:19 PM by Webmaster

MGMMGM Home Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray The Man with No Name Trilogy. The release will be available for purchase on June 3rd.

The Sergio Leone "Spaghetti Westerns" did not simply add a new chapter to the genre...they reinvented it. From his shockingly violent and stylized breakthrough, A Fistful Of Dollars, to the film Quentin Tarantino calls "the best-directed movie of all time," The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, Leone's vision elevated Westerns to an entirely new art form. This definitive Leone collection of the most ambitious and influential Westerns ever made includes more than five hours of special features that uncover buried gold in these gritty classics – plus a NEWLY REMASTERED version of The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.

I would have loved to see A Fistful of Dollars get the same treatment as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

A 4K master of A Fistful of Dollars has been made . It just isn't included in this set for some reason.

Will pick up TGTBATU if offered by itself. Will pick up a trilogy when Fistful gets upgraded.

Love these films, but I'm going to hold off on a purchase of this set for a while to see if they do anything new with the other film(s).

No theatrical version of TGtB&tU = no dice. Regardless of whether the longer version represents Leone's original intention/vision, I find the shorter US theatrical release version to be the vastly superior film.

I can't double dip on the set just for the upgrade of TGTBATU.

Well this is rather pointless. Yet another set re-released with little new to offer. Store shelves continue to get cluttered...

All three need new scans.

On the plus side, it'll probably be dirt cheap soon, like their similar re-release of the Rocky set where only one movie earned a makeover. That one got down to about 20 bucks with twice as many films - maybe this will get down to ten.

We already have an MGM / Fox Man With No Name Trilogy on Blu, does anyone know how this is different?

I'm all for buying my fourth copy of The Good The Bad and the Ugly, but until the remastered version is offered separately with the theatrical cut included, no way.

Clearly just released to coincide with MGM's 90th anniversary...huge shame they rushed it and ignored restoring A Fistful of Dollars, or my favourite of the 'trilogy' For A Few Dollars More. No buy for me.

Looks pretty much like the existing Blu-ray trilogy in a new box. I'll stick with the copy I have for now. Plus, the box art is better on the current set (no offense, Clint).

I think Zavvi in the UK have a Steelbook coming out of TGTBATU. They released a Steelbook of the remastered version of Rocky, which only came in a collection. For those of you who just want the new 4K scan, perhaps that could be a possibility.

Its not just Zavvi for the UK steelbook - its a general release which means everyone has it.

I just don't get the they didn't remaster the first 2 films as well. I'll bite when the individual release of GB&TU comes along!

We will have to wait at least a few months for the box to be separated. MGM knows that the remastered GTBATU is what most fans want and fear lost potential sales of the other two if they break it now.
