Captain America: The Winter Soldier Blu-ray
Posted May 30, 2014 03:42 PM by Webmaster
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray Anthony and Joe Russo's Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, and Cobie Smulders. The 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack and Standard Blu-ray editions will be available for purchase online and in stores across the nation on September 9th.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is helmed by directing team Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky.

Not really a fan of these Disney Marvel releases. Iron Man 3, at least, used the official movie posters as full size cover art, but every succeeding title (Thor 2, and now Cap 2) seem to be going with a trend of using really bad mock ups of their own posters. It's like they try to photoshop and cram bigger pics of the people into a really small space, while cutting out the background that *should* be there, instead.
Crappy cover arts aside, I'm also disappointed in their continuing efforts with this paltry amount of special features. Unless they come out with a spiffier-looking, more complete Phase 2 box set at some point, I don't think I'll be buying any of these movies, unless somebody makes really awesome customer covers I can print out myself on a later date.
It's a shame these Marvel movies are some of the most successful movies of recent years, but the blu-rays get such few special features. Maybe they will add more for a phase 2 boxset later on, but I'm not willing to double dip for that.
I'm not too surprised at a lack of a one-shot. While we've come to love them, let's face it: Marvel is reaching out into TV and Internet video right now with Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, and the new Defenders shows on Netflix. Basically, we're getting a ton of content right now, so I'm not going to worry about no short film when we're getting so much more.
Guess I'll be getting the single disc Blu-Ray, even though like Thor 2, the 3D edition will likely be available on Amazon for a few cents more come release date.
Sigh...no 2DBD+DVD+DC/UV combo pack? Awesome Disney...way to force us to buy 3D in order to get it all. I hate 3D and have no use for it. I wish they would stop forcing us to buy it to get it all. Just offer both like you use to.
That isn't the point. We shouldn't be forced to buy 3D as the only option for the DVD and DC/UV. Nor do I want to have to list the 3D disc on ebay or anywhere else. Stupid for Disney to go this route in the first place.
@wnicholas76: I don't consider selling out before the doors opened, to BB employees, because they ordered so pathetically few steelbooks for Thor 2, "selling like hotcakes". Major release, advertised in a way that implied they'd have the usual on hand, yet the two nearest BBs to me only got a few steelbooks each. I actually managed to get one, but couldn't pass up selling it for the rediculous amounts they were going for. I was still appalled that BB didn't order more for something they nationally advertised. You lose customers over stupid stuff like that.
@neoz: Look again, the 3D combo doesn't include a standard dvd either. It's rather funny, how the majors are going away from including dvds in combo packs at the same time Criterion is foolishly starting to include them.
If Disney (or any other studio) is going to offer less content, whether it be discs, or extras, they need to lower their prices accordingly. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean amazon will lower theirs too.
I'm in for the 3D edition, for the 3D disc, not the vaporware.
Strong supporter for 3D blus. Must have to add to collection. I am not worried about you guys bashing me because you ain't the ones that's gonna watch this or any other movie on my 3D TV. So hell yeah, gonna get this one on day one. Come on Amazon, pre-order already!
Not crazy about the covers. I'd prefer the poster shown with him standing in the helicarrier. Would like to see a steel book too. Loved this movie can't decide if this or Avengers is my favorite Marvel film. September 9th can't come soon enough.
Day one for me!!! The best marvel film to date out of phase two! Hopefully guardians of the galaxy will be just as awesome! Please best buy release a steelbook so it would match Thor the dark world steelbook!!!
Why is Disney doing its weird practices with its Blu-Ray/3D combo packs?
When did they start with their practices in disc authoring, and doing what they are currently doing?
What do you think they are going to do with Maleficent because its source film is considered one of their legacy titles (in the authoring of either BD combo pack and its design), are they going to revoke its BD 3D or do it properly?
Im hesitant to buy the Captain in either pack because of marketing practices, what do you all advise i do?
still can't get what's interesting in having a super nationalist with no powers and a shield on the big screen, the first movie was utter boringness with blue guy fighting the nazis (can find many better nazi films)
So... let me get this straight:
- no Marvel One-Shot, easily the best "extra" on any of the Marvel releases
- no version with DVD disc, only a questionable digital copy
- single disc gets no slipcover (not that I personally care, but some do)
- same high release-day price as always
Once again, I'll be holding back from a day-one purchase because instead of giving customers options to let them buy what they want, Disney has once again rigidly defined what they *think* you should have. The Winter Soldier was easily the best solo-hero Marvel release since the original Iron Man; it deserves better package options for consumers.
Wait, I thought Disney was -giving up- 3D disks, because we weren't getting Frozen!
@Moulin - "I'm in for the 3D edition, for the 3D disc, not the vaporware."
You mean the "coasters"--A 4K release would be "vaporware".
But the lack of DVD looks like they're following through on their mission to reduce disk-clutter in 3D combo editions.
@TMAN he maybe is , you don't have time for that when you're Captain America. I'm waiting for a phase 2 digipak or a big set including phase 1 and 2 i've got the phase 1 digipak it's got some lush artwork. They're great movies but i'm not a big enough fan to spend a fortune on the steelbooks.
