Sigourney Weaver Set to Return in Three Avatar Sequels

Posted June 9, 2014 10:04 PM by Webmaster

Sigourney Weaver is set to appear in the three Avatar sequels which James Cameron plans to shoot later this year. The three films will be shot back-to-back and the first is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters across the United States in December 2016.

Following the announcement Cameron said: "Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We're good friends who've always worked well together, so it just feels right that she's coming back for the Avatar sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she's playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We're both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration."

Twentieth Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment will make the next three Avatar films in New Zealand.

Note: In the United States, Avatar 3D is available on Blu-ray courtesy of Twentieth Centiry Fox Home Entertainment. Click on the link to see our listing and review of this release.

I'm pretty sure I already knew this info. I wish Schwarzenegger was added to the sequels

Happy for Ms Weaver but I think Cameron could find a more interesting project to pursue ie Battle Angel.

I always felt Avatar was a little overrated. Pretty and so good action, but kinda mundane and rather artless.

Avatar doesn't need sequels, period, but I know they're happening anyway. With that said, what else could Sigourney play except for Grace again? It would have to be Grace's spirit coming back from the Tree of Souls and entering a Na'vi body, right?

I'm all for Sigourney Weaver returning for the three Avatar sequels. But I'm more excited for Stephen Lang returning for the sequels!! He was so badass in the first film, and his awesome performance as Col. Miles Quaritch gave me a newfound respect for the man!!

It doesn't need sequels, no. But there is an entire world there that hasn't been explored so plenty of stories could be told there without it being in direct sequel from a story continuation perspective.

James, could you take a couple of weeks off and kick-start an effort to get The Abyss and True Lies going on Blu? Pretty please? With a cherry on top?...

Absolutely LOVE Avatar but I don't want that to be all Cameron works on for the next decade. That being said, I will still watch the hell out of the sequels.

Hoping the 'Avatar' sequels will at least revive quality and enthusiasm for 3D.

Since Cameron will have Weaver for a while why not film the final ALIEN film and be done with it...

Weaver has stated there's one more story to tell... and who better to direct it...

Oh wow. I thought Avatar would be a trilogy, not a quadrology.

She didn't look like she wanted to be in the FIRST one!

@eiknarf - "Oh wow. I thought Avatar would be a trilogy, not a quadrology."
Or even a TETRALOGY.

I am glad to see her return for the next Avatar movies. She plays an excellent mother figure in a bossy kind of way. I would not mind seeing her playing a more aggressive role.

Another character in the movie is going to say, "she's using the trees!" I called it here first!

It will be interesting to see how he can milk the Fern Gully story for 3 more films! He did an incredible job with the 1st. I'll certainly see the 2nd. Great to hear SW will return in a new role.

I enjoyed Avatar and will watch the sequels but its a pity we won't see much else from Cameron for a long time.

@Mr. Joshua: 'Another character in the movie is going to say, "she's using the trees!" I called it here first!'

Maybe he'll throw in a reference to Tourneur's Curse of the Demon, and have someone shout, "It's in the trees! It's coming!"

Even though I love Avatar, I would rather see Sigourney in another Aliens movie...especially if it's as good as 'Aliens'.

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuck it, Cameron. Make that True Lies sequel already.
Or at least release the original (and The Abyss, so as not to forget something here).
And supervise a REAL remaster of T2 and release that one properly.

Regardless, I swear I will not watch another Avatar movie. ("Swear?" "Yeah, just put up your hand and say 'I swear...'")
