Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of director Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow (2014), starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Charlotte Riley, Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, Jonas Armstrong, Noah Taylor and Dragomir Mrsic. The sci-fi action film arrives via 2D and 3D Blu-ray combo packs on October 7th.
Synopsis: The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop, forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again and again... and again. But with each battle, Cage is able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
After the film's theatrical release, I remember the TV spots began to refer to it as LIVE ON THE EDGE, hiding the actual title. It seems Warner Bros. decided along the way the title Edge of Tomorrow does not sell.
Live Die Repeat would actually be a much better title than Edge of Tomorrow. Regardless, this movie kicked ass, between this, Godzilla and Guardians, 2014 turned out to be a great summer at the movies. Day one no doubt.
@Whatman245 - a month or so ago that WB Insider's thing that replaced the previous club site that gave points, I don't know the name for either without looking... but they had a poll that gave alternate titles if the movie hadn't been called Edge of Tomorrow and Live. Die. Repeat. was one of them. wonder if that had anything to do with this
This was awesome. Most entertaining movie of the summer. Loved Blunt in this. Wish this was called "Full Metal B*tch Edition." Oh, and I wish it didn't have that stupid artwork. Like everyone said it looks like it's called Live Die Repeat. Should have just stuck with the theatrical poster.
The cover is definitely a mess, but the film was such a blast! Definite buy, and worth a blind buy for those curious. Hope BB or another place has a steelbook with the poster that's cleaner and less confusing.
If there's no Dawn of the Apes, this would be the best movie of the year, yet~
Warner has really lazy graphic designer, their covers has been awful since the blu-ray first invented. Not to mention their super duper ugly blu-ray menu interface!
It's too bad a movie like this (which was quite good) does poorly at the box office while some of the dregs rake in the $$. This did $99 million domestically on a budge of $178 million. Thankfully the overseas crowds saved it a bit, as Cruise hasn't lost his appeal to the foreign markets (it made an additional $264 million overseas).
Anyway, day 1 on the 3D. I'm thankful that the other studios aren't following Disney's lead with the 3D-free US releases.
Easily one of my favorite movies of the year! However like everyone else, I too hate the cover art, this would've made an awesome steelbook cover w/Full Metal Bitch on it. Although still have hope that Best Buy will come through.
I enjoyed this film.I thought it was going to be a repeat every time. But to me this film felt like a video game world lmao. And it was cool i would say it's a good film to watch and own on bluray.Idk about the 3D as i did not see it in 3D just in 2D.
Very underrated film, should of done better here in the States. Unfortunately, Cruise's Scientology roots have damaged his image, but NOT his ability to take part in highly entertaining and enjoyable action films. At least he's still bankable overseas and the film made its money so that he can do more films such as this one.
Definitely day 1 purchase, hoping one of the "main chains" have a steelbook or a digibook available.
Who downvotes a comment asking about Atmos in the front page News items? The movie's soundtrack was mixed in Atmos and I would love to hear it in the way it was presented in theaters. Would someone downvote an OAR request? Audio should be no different.
I for one like the cover. It's unique, unconventional and daring with that military style look. The small title text reminds me of Metallica's Black Album, like it was special for he fans only, designed for the fans, who will instantaneously know what album that is.
Hopefully it'll have a steelbook with a different cover. I thought the poster was perfect. This one is pretty disappointing. I'll still get it day one regardless. 2nd best film of the year after Cap 2.
I'm with you Ray O. Blu!!! WHAT is up with that UGLY cover!!!! Apologize for the language but COME ON!!! lol I mean..as another has already mentioned, the cover looks like the movie is called 'LIVE DIE REPEAT',lol
Whoever gave final approval for the choice of cover for this flick CLEARLY needs to stop drinking his dinner.
Good job marketing team! When someone goes to the store to buy "Edge Of Tomorrow", don't you think the title should be clear. I always blame 2 people for retarded design choices. The person who designed it and more importantly the person who approved it.
Yes, the studio is aggressively changing the name of the movie for easier marketing. You'll still hear the words "Edge of Tomorrow" in DVD commercials I'm sure, but I think WB is trying to get the name "Live Die Repeat" into the consciousness of the consumers.
There have been other examples of this, but off the top of my head I can only think of any. Pitch Black sort of I guess.
I never really go for those exclusive editions when movies come out right away, but if some store offered an awesome steelbook with Emily Blunt on it that said "Full Metal Bitch" I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
What would improve this concept for the artwork is if they duplicated the middle shot so there's 3 of them, only the first is him getting killed, and the last is him killing the alien, so it mimics the movie and it looks like he learns from his mistake and corrects it: dying and then anticipating it and killing the alien. Or, a 3 frame illustration of a takedown, like in a comic book.
Definitely a fun summer movie. I like the title "Edge of Tomorrow" far better than "All You Need is Kill". Just because it was the original title of the source material doesn't mean it's better... Box art does suck big time. A google search of images shows far better ones. The one I like the best only has Emily Blunt in it. Oh well...
Blu-ray.com is just going to ignore the movie's random name change? As many times as this movie's title has changed, I hope they do another home video release in the future and give it a forth title for no reason.
