Speed Racer Announced for Blu-ray; The Matrix Next?

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the Wachowski brothers film 'Speed Racer' to Blu-ray on September 16th, day-and-date with the DVD release. This three-disc set will feature the main feature and supplemental features on the first disc, the DVD game "Speed Racer Crucible Challenge" on the second disc, and a digital copy of the film on the third disc - the last two being exclusive to the Blu-ray release.
Video will be presented in widescreen 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Extras for this release include:
- Spritle in the Big Leagues
- Explore the cars and tracks used in the film and see how the heart-pounding races were created without using a single car.
Earlier this year, Warner indicated that they would release The Matrix films on Blu-ray to coincide with the release of 'Speed Racer' as they are all Wachowski brothers films. Warner yet to make that announcement, but hopefully we will hear something very soon.

Everything I'm seeing points to a November launch for the Matrix films. It was originally supposed to release with Speed Racer, but that was before Speed Racer flopped. As it stands, Warner probably figures a holiday release will garner more sales than a Speed Racer tie-in release.
Of course I could be wrong, and the Matrix films will be announced for a September release. I'd much prefer that as I'm dying to get my hands on them as well. But I just don't see it happening. |

The Matrix trilogy is already up for pre-order on Play.com, to be released in November. Think someone made a boob with the pricing as it was initially £14.99, but is now £37.99. Luckily I managed to get my order in before they changed the price :-) |

Haven't seen it, but the SPEED trailer in HD is PHENOMENAL! This will be a blind buy for sure. As far as The Matrix goes - keep it. One of the most overrated films of recent memory. Now if they release Bound... I'm in! |

Speed Racer will be mine. Saw at IMAX and found it highly entertaining though often cheesy and about 25 minutes too long. Will look great on BD. |

Looking forward to checking out Speed Racer. Loved the cartoon growing up but I didn't go see the movie at the theater. Hope they do a good job with the blu-ray. |
