Samsung Announced Lower Priced Blu-ray HTIB

Samsung has announced that they will introduce a third home theater in a box (HTIB) to their product line-up this fall. The Samsung HT-BD2E, which is expected to retail for $799, will feature a 5.1 speaker set up with five satellite speakers and a passive subwoofer totaling 800 watts RMS power. The included Blu-ray player will be BonusView capable and decode everything except DTS-HD Master Audio.
It will join the already available HTIB systems, the Samsung HT-BD2S ($999) and HD-BD2T ($1,499), both 7.1 systems. The HD-BD2S uses seven satellite speakers with an active subwoofer, and the HD-BD2T gets four tower speakers (FL, FR, SL, SR) and three satellite speakers (C, RSR, RSL) with the active subwoofer. Both systems total 1,100 watts.
Samsung is hoping that this new lowered price point with help them continue brisk HTIB sales and compete with Panasonics $999 BT-100 with BonusView player.

"decode everything except DTS-HD Master Audio. "
What's the point in owning if most studios will hopefully be using DTS-HD-MA at some point. |

You hit the nail right on the head hc666. There is no point to getting the system. What will happen is people will see an all in one system, buy it and it will sound like the exactly like their old HTIB but with a Blu-ray player. These companies are steering customers in the wrong direction. |

Great Samsung is probably rushing this out as they state they want to compete with Panasonic. Having been burned by Samsung too many times with their quality issues, I can only wonder how these HTIB are holding up. I know I can't recommend anything Samsung to anyone any longer.
No DTS-MA is a freaking joke. And people wonder why many say they can't see/hear a difference in BD. |

This is a lot of money to spend on a product that has no company back-up. Samsung has absolutely no customer service. How do I know this; I'm a 1200 sap that was unknowingly part of the Samsungs 1200 bata test.
If you're in the market for something like this then do your homework. There are a lot of other brands out there that back up their products and keep up with FW updates. |

Umm... the specs you listed are incorrect. The main receiver/BD unit in the BD2E is the exact same as in the existing HTIB models from Samsung and is only Profile 1.0 capable.
As for brisk sales, they're releasing another HTIB with a Blu-ray player that is only 1.0 capable a year after the reported cut-off date and no DTS-HD MA decoding. Yeah, I wouldn't bet on it breaking any records. |
