Lionsgate's Revenue Up Due to Blu-ray Sales

Posted August 11, 2008 03:12 PM by Josh Dreuth

Lionsgate Films Lionsgate has announced that their fiscal first-quarter home entertainment revenue is up 47% from the same period last year, mostly due to the increase in sales of their films on the Blu-ray disc format. For the quarter ending June 30th, revenue was $152.2M, up from $103.8M a year earlier. With overall spending similar to last year, Lionsgate is gradually increasing their market share against the larger studios.

I wonder if its due to the fact that they tend to take pride in the lossless audio department. Well deserved Lionsgate keep up the quality. (Warner hope your watching)

Their more recent releases are great...a couple early ones suffered on the PQ side, but they were also catalog releases. I'll keep purchasing for sure...

Okay Lionsgate...so here is the plan.

You bank hard right and then we flank sony from each side. You front the cash and I'll "appropriate" the rights to D.E.B.S. and we will release it together!!!

We should make about $300.00 profit on the whole operation but we will somehow find a way to fund the F-14s we..um..borrowed.

Despite their mis-handling of "Midnight Meat Train", I still love Lionsgate! Keep releasing older cult flicks like "Monster Squad" and the upcoming "Class of 1999" and we'll keep buying them!

Lionsgate = AVC + PCM or AVC + DTS HD MA

They sometimes even give us 7.1 tracks. It makes sense that there revenues would be up. If I recall there was a similar news posting for Lionsgate in January.

Keep up the good work Lionsgate. You'd think it would be a no brainer that if you produce quality products consumers will gladly give you their money. Like GreatWhite83 said I hope Warner and any other studio thinking of resting on their laurels are paying attention.

That's because they're putting out their product the way we want them. Are you paying attention, Warner, Paramount, Universal and even Disney?

I wonder how the competitors BD sales are even with "undesirable" products?

I hope they put Monster Squad on Blu-Ray that would be fantastic. I think for once Disney has done a good job Heart&Soul. Paramount and Universal are late in the game but I like what they have given so far. Warner has a lot work for the Die Hards though.

I love Lionsgate BD's because they care about quality.

Message to Lionsgate: Please redo Terminator 2 and include lossless audio and a cleaner master and you will get thousands of people double-dipping. Thank you.

yea, WB needs to stop with these retarded Dolby audio crap. If I want DVD audio, ill get a DVD. Its
nice to see a profit from Blu-ray. Hopefully this is more justification of Blu-ray as a format and helps it
convince more companies to adopt and push it.

Great news. I have about 30 Blu-ray's to buy before Christmas. I think I might help the market a lil' bit. Just a little. LOL

that's good news indeed.

it's so important that studios put their best foot forward and not short-change us on the hd front.

so many films i'm willing to repurchase if they spend the time to maximize the format to the best of their ability.
