Mitsubishi to Begin Producing Blu-ray Laser Diodes

Posted August 14, 2008 08:04 AM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray Disc Mitsubishi Chemical is said to be planning to enter the Blu-ray burner pick-up head (PUH) market with the production of high-power laser diodes. Currently, only three manufacturers make these diodes, with Sony keeping most to themselves, leaving manufacturers to fight for small supplies from Sharp and Nichia. With the number of products using Blu-ray burners on the rise, they feel that their product will help fill the gap between supply and demand.

Supply of low-powered laser diodes (which are used in the production of Blu-ray read-only PUHs), on the other hand, are not in short supply due to more producers and higher yields.
