New Panasonic Blu-ray Players to be Announced at CEDIA

Posted August 14, 2008 10:27 AM by Josh Dreuth

Panasonic On September 3rd, Panasonic will announce the addition of two more Blu-ray Disc players to their already impressive high definition arsenal. The Panasonic DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55 will both feature an updated version of the UniPhier® video processor as well as an Ethernet port for BD-Live compatibility.

The DMP-BD55 will focus on audio reproduction with the addition of 8-channel analog audio outs (the DMP-BD50 only has 6-channel), high quality audio components, and isolation feet to reduce the effects of vibration.

Pricing and availability is expected has yet to be announced, but we expect that both players will be available this holiday season at a premium over the existing (and short supplied) DMP-BD30 and DMP-BD50.

Ah Ha...I think I found my upgrade player.

I absolutely love that they specifically "focus on audio reproduction."

This is turning into a great year for Blu Ray! The more players that are on the market, the more prices will soon drop. This Christmas is going to be big for fans of Blu.

Excellent! The BD55 means no HDMI (or a new receiver) required for HD audio!!! Great job Panasonic - You just brought life back to many high-end prepros!!!!! (Especially if they have 8 channel Multi-inputs)!

How about some cheapie blu-ray players that will bring the cheapie folks to blu after their cheapie dvd player breaks? I think thats the market growth we are all looking towards. Thats the growth that will lead to the eventual displacement of DVD in favor of BD.

I agree with bg_nyc. Those who can't afford the top notch Blu-Ray players should have cheaper players available to them. Btw, I love Panasonic! I've always bought their products!

Oh I imagine the cheapo Magnavox at Walmart will get plenty of sales this holiday season. No
need to give Average Joe too many options it will just confuse him more. Hopefully Walmart will
offer the Blu rebate of $100 this holiday buying season like they did for Father's Day weekend.
That will get plenty of people hooked. $200 for a BD Player is a bargin!

No pricing on these yet? If they're anywhere near the $499 of the Sony BDP-S550, they might just be in the running for my next stand-alone player (my current BDP-S500 will go to my Mom, or a close friend of mine, to get them hooked on the Blu-bug!) later this year or early next year, depending on the end of year sales, and reviews of the new BD-Live (profile 2.0) players. Hopefully we will get another news posting once pricing and more detailed specs are listed for the Panasonic players.
