Paramount Offers $10 Rebate for DVD Owners; New Titles Revealed

Posted August 14, 2008 03:44 PM by Josh Dreuth

Paramount Paramount Home Entertainment will soon offer DVD owners $10 via mail-in-rebate when they purchase select Blu-ray titles. These titles include 'Transformers' (Sep 2), 'The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration' (Sep 23), and 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' (Oct 21). Additionally, the rebate applies to the currently unannounced titles 'Old School', 'Stardust', and 'Zodiac'.

No additional information is known about the unannounced releases, though we expect to hear something soon.

good that they are giving some incentives and repirations for their dumb move last year.

intresting that they arent giving them to HD DVD owners who won't to buy on a format that isn't....dead.

That is what I'd call a bunch of motivated self-starting team players with a good attitude.

Good incentive to re-buy the movie. Nice move Paramount, hopefully other studios follow suit.

Does the $10 rebate also apply to people who Paramount stabbed in the back when they yanked Blu-ray support?

Snyder-Man - you'll get a check in the mail if you follow the instructions listed in the link.

I've always been too lazy to go through these kinds of things for 5-10 dollars.

But still, it is nice to see Paramount at least attempt to say, "sorry". It's never too late.

So, if I am understanding this, the rebate is for people who purchase those titles on Blu-Ray and already have the same title on DVD?

That is cool. I do wish they would do the same for owners of the HD-DVD version since that is the version of Transformers that I currently have.

It's nice to see Paramount is moving in the right direction. I'm also glad they are releasing Zodiac soon. I was close to buying the import version earlier this week. Whew!

Well, DVD is the new "enemy" seeing as many have great PQ using an upscaler. Of course, nothing can match Blu, but some Blu-Rays have atrocious PQ. It's my main winge :-)

Excellent move! It would enhance SDVD's erosion on the market.

This would definitely help make the decision about wether or not I'd double dip. Nice to know as well
that though it's "unannounced" Stardust might be coming soon.

I can't think of a single film that looks even close to the quality Blu-Ray has. And you say some Blu-Rays have atrocious PQ? Lets compare the number of "atrocious" Blu-Rays to the number of truly atrocious DVD's and see where that gets us.

Hope this works for me (a Canadian) with Old School, and this must mean Stardust is coming soon. Can't wait!!!

I don't know, maybe it's just me but I stopped buying DVDs in 2006 when BD came out and all
the titles their offering rebates on, aside from old school, came out pretty recently. Humpf,
sounds like few folks will be able to take advantage of this?? Maybe it's aimed at those who still
haven't gone Blu. Oh well guess us die hard day one Blu supporters are just that much more
screwed by Paramount. Figures...
